So far, one of the main things we've known about From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes is that it's a PS3 exclusive. From even confirmed as such a few weeks ago, explicitly stating that it was only for the Big Black Box o' Blu-ray. However, it seems the actual development studio, Silicon Studios, is open to the idea of a 360 version.
"We can do it. Our libraries are multiplatform, so it would be possible to make it for 360," states Hiroyuki Misawa. "It's up to From. We're a developer, so if there's a call to make it, I believe we can do it."
Misawa was also asked about the whole Zelda thing, although he seemed to be ducking the question. He did confirm that the studio has in no way tried to get Nintendo's blessing, and that 3D Dot Game Heroes is "something like" an homage. He also denied that the created character data being shared with customers is Link, stating that "It probably looks like it, but it's not."
Oh, you rascal!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Seriously though, I love this. Hope it makes it to all platforms. While we're at it, put all the Pixeljunk games on the 360 and put 'Splosion Man and Geometry Wars on PS3. Please?

I think it would be nice with some exclusives for the PS3, but games like this will most likely need a big user base for launch, and porting to 360 would definitely help that. I am not sure PS3 user base is enough to support this game, although Sony has been more open for 'alternative' experiences like Noby Noby Boy and Flower.
If any platform needs and is open to 2D zelda, it's the wii platform. Just throw the dot effects out the window and you have a great title for a wii port.
@ Bigmoose
You want to play a game, you buy a game console. The less consoles that are on the market the better it is for gamers, and my proof is the Nintendo DS.
This multiple platform stuff has got to go.
Sure, Zelda and Nintendo fans would love to get their hands on this, but since this game is almost at the point of ripping off Zelda (with very similar gameplay, map, weapons and so on), I am not sure Nintendo would allow them to publish it on the Wii.
I think it's weird they're not sued by Nintendo already :p
The demand in Japan alone is not high enough for 360... so to see it come over here multi-platform that would be nice =D
wat?
The Gameboy would have been a better exaple, but DS is the clear winner of the handheld space. It has 2000 games to the PSP's 600, and a gamer can buy the DS without feeling like he's missing much on any of the other handheld platforms. The DS is an easy choice for best handheld gaming platform (for me at least), and thus a person like me wins when there is only one logical platform to choose. I only wish that were also true for consoles.
Also, JIM IT'S A ZELDA RIPOFF AHAHAHAHAHHAHAH YOU CANT STOP ME FROM SAYING IT.
There, that should fuel Jim into making another trolling post meant to bring in more hits
Why wouldn't it sell in the US? I think it would sell fantastic.
Aren't you just a little bundle of optimism?
From Software's last game sold well enough that the publisher underestimated its required stock and had to send extra to retailers. As a man who prides himself on research, should you not be a little more prudent in your predictions?
If they had reasons dealing with procesing power to not port it to the Wii it would probably be because of stuff like blur effects or lighting effects, because from what I've seen physics don't seem that cpu intensive ( that one game on windows 95 or something where the two monkeys threw bananas at each other), personally I think they're not going to port it because of Zelda being Nintendo's property, but whatever...
Clearly you have no understanding of the concept of economics. One console would rake the gamer and the developers over the coals. The DS might be the best handheld, but it isn't the only handheld and thus it HAD to be competitive, it HAD to be good or it would fail. Remove the PSP and another handheld gaming platform and the DS could have done whatever it wanted.
People like you make me just groan. You don't GET it. Get your heads out of the clouds of idealism and back down on the earth where companies, no matter how much we like to think they're all nice and full of sugar and rainbows, would jump at the first chance to gouge the gamers and developers extra money since they wouldn't have another choice in game platform. SONY, Nintendo and MS are only loyal in so far that they HAVE to act as such in order to retain any marketshare and brand loyalty.
But despite my complaints, I think this is very cool news. If a 360 version comes around, I'd definitely rent it at the least, and buy it if I hear good things about gameplay.
You make the assumption that market competition results in the evolution of consoles. This is a false assumption, one that you probably made observing the buisness practices of non-game centric companies like Sony and Microsoft. Consoles evolve because consumers become bored if they don't and consoles can die even without competition simply by refusing to innovate. I am well aware of your arguement as it is one of used to agree with, until I realized that it made the false assumption that consumers would continue to buy consoles if the companies that make them steadfastedly stuck to old strategies well after the content became stale. Consumers are not that stubborn, and companies like Nintendo are forced to innovate not because of competition but because their userbase will slowly fall into oblivion even in the complete void of competition.
In fact, direct competition for market share is exactly what lead to Sony and Microsoft competing directly with eachother over an arguably shrinking userbase, while offering very little innovation.
Get out of the fantasy and learn the reality, no matter how counterintuitive it might be.
i personally get sea sick looking at it so i probably won't get it.
Oh and the Wii wouldnt have ahope in hell of running this game in 3d.
However, a lot of these jRPG jokes will probably be lost on many Western gamers. There are some parodies that make reference to Metal Gear Solid, Megaman, Bionic Commando, Demon's Soul, but the VERY vast majority are towards jRPGs- some of them esoteric or not well known to non-Japanese audiences. There is no game joke referencing Western games.
This is a game aimed at nostalgic Japanese RPG gamers.
It doesn't take away from the fun, but you will lose something in the translation. The parodies is what makes the game, playing the game without knowing the reference is like watching a comedy skit and not knowing what the joke is about.
The only way this makes sense for a 360 port is if the US PS3 version sells well, there needs to be evidence that a 360 port will generate money. 360 presence is small in Japan, a 360 port will be primarily targeted for US audiences exclusively.
This is why I hope whoever does the translation(Sony, Atlus) handles it with the utmost care. It would suck if we'd loose any of those awesome jokes because of a lame localization. I don't see the jokes getting too obscure(Treasure of the Rudras, Live A Live), but who knows the game seems like it is thick with content. That being said, I don't think they'd have to change anything for the english release. It is not like people here in the US don't like Japanese games.
If this game sells well, maybe we can play games like 3D Dot Game Hero:Star Wars or 3D Dot game Hero Harry Potter, lol :D
