Squee! 3D Dot Game Heroes is totally happening in the West thanks to Atlus, and there are a great many of us at Destructoid who couldn't be happier. A brand new launch trailer for the Western release of 3D Dot Game Heroes has been sent out way, and you can feel free to glance at it with your eyes right now.
I simply cannot help laughing at the shameless Zelda references in this game. While many have become enraged by what they view as a rip-off, I personally find it extremely funny. In any case, the game promises loads of old-school fun and looks absolutely gorgeous, so only a miserable skinflint with no friends could find something to hate about it.
3D Dot Game Heroes hits North America on May 11, 2010. If this game is not excellent, I will make love to a copy of Too Human.

Meet the rest of the team
Wow lol that was sooo funny. I really can't stop laughing. I too find hilarity in things making references to other things. You know what movie you'd probably like Jim? Meet the Spartans. It's like my favorite movie! So many references.
Seriously though, what the fuck. The only funny thing about this game is the super giant sword, and ironically that's like the only thing that isn't a reference to Zelda.

I don't understand the hate for this game? It's not like From Software went "HEY THIS GAME IS TOTALLY ORIGINAL AND DEFINITELY NOT ZELDA!". They have said already it's a homage to zelda games of old, so why get pissed like they are stealing your lunch money?
Me personally, I don't quite get the love for this game. Granted, working out a 3D representation of pixel art is neat. But it feels like pure gimmick, especially considering how much "parody" is going on. A handful of referential chiptunes and a collection of dots with no previous IP does not an instant fap fest make. I'm not feelin' the hype on this one, and I'm surprised there aren't more people that think the premise and presentation is thin. But whatevs, ultimately.
I'm interested, but not convinced that its going to be awesome, at all.
Dragon Warrior and Zelda were two of my favorite games on the NES. Dragon Warrior was the first RPG I ever played, and that I had ever seen. It was a totally different type of game that I had ever played before (I as 13 when it came out). Also, Zelda also had a huge influence on me b/c it's one of the first games I ever bought, and it had a continuous plot and linear quest (unlike pretty much all of the games on the Atari).
However, after the SNES came out, the art style and game mechanics continued to change in these games, so this game seems to bring back the feeling of those old games, yet it does something unique with it.
The games themselves did not look like 3D Dot Game Heroes, but when I played those games when I was young, I imagined the games to look like the same as this one. Somehow, the developers of this game were able to capture something that was previously only in my imagination, and it's exciting to see it become real.
I don't know about anyone else, but that's why I have been wanting this game ever since Jim put the 1st photos up of it.
"@Takeshi: that if we euro-africantrash don't get forgotten"
Remind me again why Europeans are still asking Atlus USA to print games for them?
Also: I love how people are complaining "THIS GAME ISN'T FUNNY" when we haven't seen any dialogue screens yet. Of course it isn't funny, you have to, you know, actually read the text for that.
I suppose I could say the same of the people who are claiming IT WILL TOTALLY BE HILARIOUS, but at least that side has the funny giant sword and the sprite editor allowing pretty much anything going for it.

Retail, as far as I know.
Also, this is making me turn my Wii on again to play through A Link to the Past.
Interesting. I'm not sure what it is about the game. Just feels like a digital release to me.
Looks cool regardless.
This thing looks awesome.
Anyone know any good importers (from US to UK)?
WHY IS MAY SO FAR AWAY!

I pity those who dislike 3D Dot Game Heroes.

It plays more like Zelda (from what I can tell in the videos). It's not a Zelda Rip-off.
