38 Studios to reveal game at Comic Con photo

38 Studios, the development team put together by former Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, will finally be revealing its upcoming project at San Diego Comic Con.

The title, the role-playing game codenamed "Project Mercury," has been in development with famed comic book artist Todd McFarlane as the art director. The game will be revealed during a panel which takes place on Thursday, July 22 from 1:15pm to 2:15pm (in Room 6A, if you plan to attend).

McFarlane will be on-hand, along with the game's lead designer Ken Rolston and its executive creator, R.A. Salvatore. A trailer for the game, directed by McFarlane, will makes it premiere. Bonus? Everyone who attends gets a limited-edition poster. Fancy.

Todd MCFarlane huh is the art director, huh? Wonder if the Spawn boot will make an appearance?

Though R. A. Salvatore as executive creator gives me hope.

I have to say, this gives me flash backs to Darksiders having an established comic artist as art director. And it was bloody awful.

Also, McFarlane's Evil Prophecy. Don't think I forgot.

Salvatore, though he's written a boat-load of soulless fluff, does have talent. He's had a few very good novels mixed in with the Mary Sue Adventure works. It will be interesting to see if anything good comes of this. If it's about a dark elf getting demonic powers, however, then I'll pass. Also, I hope McFarlane calms down with the chains for this.

@pokota: Soulless fluff? But he made an elf that was dark and had a panther friend.

A panther friend.

This is the first I've heard about this studio or their mystery project, but color me mildly interested.

@seventhevening -- Darksiders was really fun.

It was mediocre mechanically, incredibly easy and it soullessly ripped off any mechanic it thought would make it sell. It also suffered from an awful plot and a bunch of flimsy characters. If that wasn't enough, it was pumped full of testosterone and tried super hard to be "awesome" and "hardcore", which resulted it in being neither one.

If that sounds like fun to you, then right on. Everyone's got an opinion. I personally thought it was crap, but there is enough stuff that is decent in there that if you really wanted a bad zelda on steroids, you could find a lot of fun in it.

I was wondering why schilling would be premiering at Comic Con of all places until I read Macfarlane.

Though I'd say Macfarlane is more of a toy maker than a "famed comic book artist" these days.

I have no possible rebuttal for that.

You win this round.

I've been dreaming for a Salvatore/D&D collaboration with a gaqming studio to bring the Underdark and Calimport, Waterdeep, etc to life. I hope this does well and convinces Wizards of the Coast and Salvatore to make an Assassin's Creed-engine game filled with every fantasy class archtype!!!
