I would consider this a rumor were it not for the picture above. Talks of a cooler, more efficient 360 have been around for a long time now, and it seems we're finally seeing what is as good as a confirmation that a system somewhat along those lines will hit the market "soon".
Here's the word from Engadget:
Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon."
No word on whether it's more efficient, but cooler is good. And if anyone doubted the 360 could display 1080p as well as the PS3, put your fears to rest. It will probably do it better.
Thanks a ton to Chris Taran for sending along the tip! You rock.

(not a M$ bash, all consoles have had them, simple fact)
Thanks Sony!
While I can't complain that Microsoft wants to improve their product, I can't help but feel cheated for being an early supporter of their system.
Also, I do indeed rock.
But what about everyone else that got the first 360? Wouldn't you be just a bit peeved?
2nd) way to screw over the early adopters like myself
Next, PS3 please.
what the hell. I'm sure that microsoft did this to intentionally "screw over" current xbox 360 owners.
personally i don't really care other than the larger harddrive. i've had my since march with no problems at all.
people say that every fucking time. at least you've actually been _playing_ the thing for over a year.
And about M$ "intentionally screwing over" early adopters or current 360 owners...what is better than having fans and bunch of people buy your system? Having fans and a bunch of people buy your system TWICE, the 2nd time with some added bonus features. M$ is all about money and disrupting Sony's business (makes even more sense with the beta/leaked Halo DS game, enlist someone else to help destroy your competition, huh? and don't they say keep your friends close but your enemies closer? Hello, nintendo). M$ release a new "updated" system to get more hype on the system to sell more units and put a damper on the PS3's "dominance" in power.
Blah, enough of that rant!
I used to wear face paint. Im bored.
Waaa. ;) lol
probably...just make it stick out on the top but fit in the spot? Seems dumb to make an upgrade that all users would probably want and make it only available to the Zephyr, of course they could and make you buy it but then they might as well just tack it on. So most likely...
Excatly, its not like this one plays games differently or anything. Its like the slimline PS2, except the features actually mean something.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some old NES games to beat.
anyway, isint it more important to know if the HD-DVD drive is internal?
Bigger hard drive, ok - but that will fit my xbox anyways wont it?
A silent, cool xbox is what would interest me more.
And I also agree that Chris T in fact rocks.
Game over...
it's going to be a little odd not having anything to fight with other gamers about.
Fucking lame.

If a new version does come along before middle of the year, its probably worth waiting for the 65 nm core version, which will be the end of the eyar before it filters through to shops.
The long and short of it is that manufacturers make a lot of adjustments to the production in a console lifetime. Think your 360 is the same as eveyone elses? It probably isn't.
When the Xbox was released I'm pretty sure they shipped with some dirt cheap RAM installed, so thae last few waves of Xboxes ran better than the first ones.
This will always be the way with machines, you can pretty much garauntee that any console bought today will be different from one bought 6 months from now.
If you're miffed you didn't get a box with a 120 GB HDD, then fair enough. Though here's been so much buzz in the last 6 months about the bigger hard drives, what did you expect?
As far as complaining about internal changes in hardware, well it happens all the time, it just doesn't always make the 'news'.
The build quiality was very nin-uniform on the 1st year of 360s. The technology just was not there to make it a reliable machine, hence a 90 day warranty on a $400 device.
They could be spending more to make it quiet, reliable and add all the digital circuts for HDMI. So maybe no price drop?
I can't get one until it breaks well in to the $100-200 range. :( I can only hope for a price drop.
And seriously, what was the point of that "360 will probably do it better" comment? You could at least PRETEND you're not horribly biased. (Though it DOES shine through in every post)
Honestly, I don't have ANY of the "next gen" systems yet. I HAVE played them all though, and this is how I feel:
360: Decent system. Unfortunately nothing interests me yet.
Wii: Currently sucks. Has lots of potential.
PS3: Currently sucks. Has lots of potential.
By the way, my asessment of of the 360 at two months after launch was ALSO "Currently sucks. Has lots of potential."
See a trend? Seriously, a system's launch is HARDLY indicative of its success. Play games. Have fun. Who the hell cares what console you have to do it on?
