3 million enlist in the Battlefield Heroes army photo

Battlefield Heroes, EA's free-to-play cartoon-style shooter, has apparently been expanding its user base right on schedule -- the game has reached 3 million registered users.

That comes down to somewhere near 50,000 new members per week, 1,300 years of game time played, and 300 million kills. Numbers! To commemorate this success, EA has put out one new map called "Sunset Showdown" (pictured above).

As crazy as this might sound, I can't help but feel like the recent drama over in-game item prices being tampered with didn't actually do as much permanent damage as we initially thought it would.

In fact, I bet the controversy raised quite a bit of awareness, causing people to, at the very least, check Battlefield Heroes out, even if they vowed to never play it again moments later. Hey, that still counts as a registered user sign-up. You're one of the 3 million now. EA owns your soul!

I guess I would count even though I don't play anymore. After the updates, I figured it wasn't worth playing anymore if in-game advantages could be bought.

I'm one of those 3 million, but I stopped playing it back in October.

I like the metagaming aspect (even though it still lacks global domination they promised). I would buy a full retail version of this game assuming they would make it on par with TF2 quality.

Registered does not = active users. I haven't played that game since the beta, but I bet I'm counted in that number...
