2K wants to make it up to you, BioShock PC players

2K wants to make it up to you, BioShock PC players photo
     Bioshock

Many gamers who bought the PC version of BioShock have been outraged at the game's DRM for various reasons. The good news is that 2K has finally responded to these issues over on The Cult of Rapture. Here are some choice quotes from the post:

Starting immediately, we will be upping the activation count to a 5 by 5 plan. We will be raising the maximum amount of computers a user can have BioShock installed on simultaneously from 2 to 5, and allowing a user to reinstall BioShock on each of those computers from 3 times to 5 times.

Also, we have in the works a revoke tool which you will be able to run on your machine if you want to free up that key and move it to to another computer

And as for widescreen, we also want to say we completely understand a user's desire to augment their FOV. BioShock is a harrowing experience, but we don't want anyone to feel limited (or motion sick!). So we are in the process of working on an official PC patch to give widescreen PC users a choice to expand their horizontal FOV, and are investigating creating a similar update for the 360.

While I didn't feel that the widescreen problem was that big of a deal, it's still nice to see that 2K is committed to fixing it. If you still have more unanswered questions, there is a technical FAQ which can be found right here

Why can't I install stuff I legally own as many times as I want? Why do they make stealing more convienient?

I think Irrational Games (or 2K Boston now) have had the most awesome customer support I've ever seen from a developer.

You guys want a LE? Cool, we'll poll you to see what you want in it.
Broken Big Daddy figures? No prob, we'll send you a new one and an artbook.
DRM a bitch? We'll make it better.
Bitching about widescreen? Working on that, too.

Of course, it also helps that BioShock is the fucking bee's knees, too.
(That's right. I said bee's knees.)

The DRM kinda makes me wanna go with a Digital Distrabution method, and i HATE that, i HATE that Valve's service wins :(

Vista doestn even have that limited install CRAP and its nearly $200 than that waste of HDD Bioshock

Removing the failed DRM measure and replacing it with a working substitute = Pass

what about that one farmer boy who doesn't have internet, that means he can't play this game?

Single player games should never have to be activated online.

While I am absolutely in love with the game as is and I don't think the wide screen thing is that big of an issue I would applaud a 360 patch.

This doesn't fix the real problem with the DRM, though... It only makes it slightly more bearable.

Well it's just great that their doing something about it. They seem mildly concerned. Which seems an applicable level of concerned for this matter. I deem it appropriate.

I'm glad 2K took note of its game consumers concerns even if some of them were complete jackasses about the whole thing. I dont like DRM either but I knew from the minute this news hit that they would find a way to make it more tolerable.

Ugh... The DRM thing makes me want to warez this game purely on principle.

Well played. At least they take responsibility.

At last, I can play Dead Rising the way it was meant to be played...on my HDTV. It's like playing a whole new game when you can actually READ the dialog.
