If you caught the first “Pitchers vs. Hitters” vignette for 2K Sports’ Major League Baseball 2K10, you will already have seen some of the professional baseball players whom 2K Sports has employed (in addition to cover athlete Evan Longoria) to promote the game. The full list includes these seven young stars:

  • Andrew Bailey, relief pitcher of the Oakland Athletics®
    • 2009 American League Rookie of the Year and American League All-Star
  • Felix Hernandez, starting pitcher of the Seattle Mariners®
    • 2009 American League All-Star
  • Jose Reyes, shortstop of the New York Mets®
    • 2-time National League All-Star selection
  • Justin Morneau, first baseman of the Minnesota Twins®
    • 2006 American League Most Valuable Player
  • Justin Verlander, starting pitcher of the Detroit Tigers®
    • 2-time American League All-Star selection
  • Kendry Morales, first baseman of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim®
    • August 2009 American League Player of the Month
  • Nelson Cruz, outfielder of the Texas Rangers®
    • 2009 American League All-Star

2K says that these players “will serve as active spokesmen and invaluable gameplay advisors” for MLB 2K10, and that includes starring in these “Pitchers vs. Hitters” videos. I must say, as much as I’m not expecting MLB 2K10 to be as good as Sony’s MLB 10 The Show, these videos are pretty damn funny. It’s great to see these guys having fun teasing each other. So at the very least, 2K is beating SCEA in that regard thus far. Still, MLB 2K10 will need some mind-blowing marketing if 2K wants it to outsell The Show.

Major League Baseball 2K10 is being developed by Visual Concepts, and it’ll be out on March 2, 2010, for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and PC.

I hope 2K10 will be at the very least comparable with The Show.. I really want a good baseball game on my 360.. if it isn't then I'll just pick up The Show for my ps3.

Isn't it called Batball in the rest of the world?

I mean, the base isn't coming into contact with the ball.

2K Sports needs to realize that it's not their marketing that's ruining their sales, it's the game itself. They need to sell the rights back to EA or completely revamp their game engine. I seriously doubt the developers pay much attention to baseball.
