2K comments on early BioShock sales photo

When we first told you that someone had nabbed a copy of BioShock a bit early, some were doubtful, but as the day went on, more and more lucky gamers got their brag on. We knew then that some retailer really did break the street date. For shame, Toys R Us, for shame!

2k Games made an official comment on the situation on the Cult of Rapture messageboards. In an attempt to settle some of the confusion, Ryan Jones, Senior Account Executive at Access Communications said:

It recently came to 2K Games’ attention that one of our retail partners prematurely sold some copies of BioShock prior to the game's official launch date. Retailers are typically shipped product in advance to ensure they can meet launch day demand on street-dated product. As a result, a few people were able to purchase the game early. Additionally, a TV advertisement for BioShock prematurely ran that incorrectly indicated that the game was available for purchase. 2K Games has reached out to our retail partners and is maintaining the street date of August 21st in North America and August 24th in Europe, when BioShock will be available at retailers. 2K Games is appreciative of the gamer excitement and critical acclaim leading up to the title’s launch.

Later, Elizabeth Tobey, Community Manager at 2K Games added:

the pre-release was a mistake on a retailer's part. i promise you with all my heart 2K did not do anything on purpose to mess with PC gamers or give the 360 a leg up or anything. it was a sad, sad mistake. PC will activate for the US on august 21st. and you'll want to wait till then anyway because new drivers will come out.

You all should have seen the reactions on the Bioshock forums. Dear god. It was practically a collection of all the tards from the GameFAQS and Gametrailers forums. Apparently alot of those individuals never heard about retailers breaking street dates. So instead of blaming the retailer, which in this case is Toys R Us, they blamed 2K games thinking they were trying to be sneaky. In the end it was definitely entertaining.

What's the big deal about breaking street dates again?
I mean, 2K gets their money regardless of whether ToysRUs sells the game now, or they sell it on the 21st.

hahaha, Yeah, i saw the 2kGames forums. I think there were threats to sue 2kgames over false advertising or something? Which with all their collective ballsacks put together they wouldnt have the scrote to actually go through with. It was idiots in supposed crisis ramping up other idiots into a supposed crisis.

My favorite comment from the whole ordeal came from a 1up article that had a user adamantly stating that anyone who bought it early should have their gamertag banned.

Haha. When I read the title of this post I thought it meant that 2000 people had commented on the post about early Bioshock sales. I'm dumb.

What the hell?

TRU breaks street date early AND a commercial saying the game is available now prematurely airs? That seems like bad communication 2k's end to me

Bastards, waiting a few weeks after the game's finished to release it. It's almost as though they want to increase anticipation.
