Kevin Levine and 2K Boston’s upcoming and unannounced game is a shooter.
According to a GameSpot report, the studio responsible for BioShock, led by the man responsible for System Shock 2 and other dazzling titles, is currently hiring for its next project. In each of the listings the project is referred to as “an unannounced shooter”, a tantalizingly vague and previously unknown bit of information. It’s also referred to as a “big” project, which leads us to believe 2K Boston isn’t crafting a sequel to Geometry Wars or something along those lines.
As for what the game could be, well, we don’t know. It’s rumored currently as an X-COM title because Levine refused to comment if it would be in an interview.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
NEW! From 2K Boston its.... BIOSHAKE!
My first reaction is no.
But... an X-Com game where you get dropped in with your hand picked team into a crash site (where you just manually shot down the alien ship, btw) and have to sniff out the aliens and secure a crash site, with random terrain...
Yeah, I'd probably get into that.
But it can't be a generic shooter with X-Com flavor. that would be balls.
I would suggest Way of the Samurai 3 this October 13th. Its is most certainly NOT a shooter...
Wasn't there a report not long ago that showed shooters are like 3 or 4 down on the "most common game genres" scale? I am pretty certain there was...
Shooters are massively hyped though, yes... you know why? People buy a ton of them. Companies tend to make what people want... it's called common sense.
Anyway, Bioshock was a shooter, so why is this a surprise? And don't give me that RPG/Shooter crap, it was a shooter, end of story.
People can only buy what's available, so if everyone keeps making shooters than that's what gamers will buy.
Killzone 2 is probably the last shooter I will pick up for quite a while.
A turn based strategy tactics-RPG game series (with a management sim overgame) in which you are tasked with defending Earth from a galactic alien invasion.
The game starts off as you being a paltry funded bunch of tinfoil hatwearing conspiracy theorists skulking around crashed UFOs then to Men in Black like guys keeping the Peace on Earth then finally culminating with you becoming interstellar commandos.
There are other really amazing things to it but the game series is also very famous for being completely destroyed as after a good trilogy run it was then milked for incredibly poor and obtuse spinoffs including an average Starfighter Sim and an embarrassingly bad third person shooter.
You are not crazy. It took me a while to get into the game and I did finish it. I ended up enjoying the game for the most part but I can see why people would get bored with it.
Sounds like it's going to be shit.
How about a squad-based shooter set in the X-Com universe? SWAT 4 was awesome.
Sure, we lose the turn-based and top-view of the game.
But hey, you guys lapped it up for Fallout 3 :D Everybody claiming "ITS THE SETTING THAT MATTERS, NOT THE GAMEPLAY!". So I'll say the same thing now.
If anybody can turn a turn-based (pun) "isometric" (or whatever angle) squad based game into a real time squad based first person shooter, it's Ken Levine and his team.
