Triple A titles like Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 have intimidated a lot of publishers whether they want to admit it or not, and have undoubtedly forced a number of the 2010 delays we've seen lately. Gearbox's Borderlands, however, has remained resolute, with publisher 2K Games believing the RPG shooter will be able to rival the hottest games of the year.
"Borderlands is an incredibly strong offering for this Christmas," says UK marketing manager Simon Turner. "Created by veteran developer Gearbox, we think that Borderlands can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any game -- it’s slick, fast-paced, tremendously polished, and incredibly stylish."
Turner also believes that Borderlands will be genre-defining: "We think that Borderlands could create an entirely new genre -- Role-Playing Shooter. Think of Diablo in a Mad Max world and you’re close."
I'm glad to see 2K Games is putting so much faith in Borderlands. Games often live or die by how much support a publisher gives them, and considering how few people knew about this game a year ago, it's terrific that 2K has put it in the spotlight and given it the attention it deserves. I hope Borderlands turns out great, and rakes in the money it deserves.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Batman: Arkham Asylum, or Borderlands?
i don't think either of those are really comparable to bioshock.
But yeah, I am really excited about seeing this one, I really hope it lives up to the amazing glimpses we've seen of it so far. Defo looking forward to the random guns element, here's hoping I get one shaped a bit like a willy.

What's the hold up? They need to announce this stuff or announce that it's not coming because I want to pre-order this shit already!
Batman Arkham Asylum - Check
Borderlands - Check
Assassins's Creed 2- Check
Guitar hero whatever - Hell no
COD MW2- Not now...better games to play than military FPS been there done that.
I would say that Borderlands is FPS then RPG whereas F3 was the reverse. Call me nitpicky, but that makes a huge difference.
Really looking forward to this game. I just need to hear some more concrete gamepaly stuff to make sure it's a day-one purchase.
Borderlands looks nice but i'm saving myself for RAGE.

Why not get both? RAGE isn't coming out this year is it?
Oh yeah completely, Borderlands does look a lot more 'actioney' but I don't think the differences are 'huge' The term Role Playing Shooter could very easily be attached to Fallout3 so it seems a little imperious for them to claim they have created it.
I think we can both agree though that if Borderlands is half as good as Fallout3, it'll be like a glorious golden rain from a smiling benevolent god. But with guns and levelling up and that.
