I'm becoming increasingly impressed with the French indie scene, and not only because my last name is Leray. Joining Meckensleep (Soul Bubbles) and Golgoth Studios (awesome-looking Toki and Joe & Mac remakes) as purveyors of gorgeously-animated 2D games are Press-Start Studios, whose Twin Blades will hit the Xbox Live Indie channel this Christmas.

In Twin Blades (the name is the worst thing about the game), you play as a B. B. Hood-inspired nun tasked with protecting her village from a zombie invasion. I know, I know, zombies are played out, but I'm guessing the game started development before the zombie-craze hit the games industry. Or maybe not—Press-Start, located in Strasbourg, was founded only this year.

Anyway, the game is very nicely animated and I really dig the tunes. I'm kind of worried about the gameplay, though. On the one hand, there's a chance that the gun-and-scythe combos will lead to a Shank-style beat-'em-up; there's also a chance that shooting mindless zombies might get old. On the bright side, the ice gun upgrade (near the end of the trailer) is really cool, and I like the idea of some RPG-lite elements to mix things up.

Anyway, Twin Blades is already out on the iPhone and seems to be pretty popular in Japan—it's sitting pretty at ninth on the Japanese App store. The game will cost you 240 Microsoft bananadollars, but Press-Start promises free DLC.

Depends on how much it rolls in at. Maybe $5, but more then that I doubt. It doesn't look like it'd serve for more then an hour or two worth of entertainment.

The level design better be more than "flat with a 90% chance of zombie infestation". Otherwise, looks sorta cool. I guess.

They should make a zombie game where the only thing that separates zombies from ordinary humans is their color.

Smerff: The game costs 240 MS Points, so it's only like $3 when converted to actual money.

smerff: Xbox Indie Games are only able to charge 80, 240, or 400 MS points, which are $1, $3, and $5 respectively.

Amazing visuals for a community game. If Australians were allowed to buy them They could totally have my $3

$3 is worth it to support indie efforts not made in MS Paint. Even if it gets old after 30 minutes I won't feel bad. Very interested in this. The indie games section on XBOX Live has so much unrealized potential.

Looks awesome. Always looking forward to whatever effort an indie dev can put-out onto the every-needy Indie channel.

I've beaten the iPhone versions.... It's ridiculous repetitive.... It's about 30 levels with the same zombies and stages over and over again and once you get the rhythm of it down the challenge is gone... :|

Looks good but the running animation needs to be more fluid.
