272-page Art of God of War III book incoming photo

Ballistic Publishing, the folks behind The Art of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, have announced its next PlayStation partnership, The Art of God of War III.

Set for release this October, the 272-page book will feature a "visual history tour" of the game, including 100 pieces of art that didn't appear in the game. The book will feature concept art, character studios, character modeling, and more, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at Sony Santa Monica's production process.

Ballistic is also offering exclusive character modeling walkthrough videos to anyone who purchases the book through its website. The videos will feature Santa Monica character artist Katon Callaway detailing how the Cerberus and Hephaestus characters were designed.

The Art of God of War III comes in two flavors -- paperback for $65, leather-bound for $129.99, and a "Limited Folio Edition" for $300. What does three bills get you? A leather-bound presentation case, a hand-signed an number Certificate of Authenticity, and a hand-carved cover ornament designed to look like the "Blade of Exile."

I love god of war but who honestly likes any franchise that much to buy an art book for $300. Unless it comes with a special edition I don't really care for art books.

I am in love with the GoW series, but I'm not spending $65 on an art book.

Uhhh, when you can get Udon's art books for under $30 on Amazon, this shit's a ripoff.

@ran24. I would not be so quick to say this book is a ripoff. Udon has a different way of doing it's art, and GoW has its own style, and for many actual artists, insight from GoW artists from the tutorial may prove invaluable.

Sure it's a lot of money but I own the uncharted 2 art book and trust me it's money very well spent. If your a fan of game art these books have all you need to know on how this game was made. They are awesome well worth the bucks.

I have the Uncharted 2 art book. The print quality is quite top notch. The content however...
Most of the content can already be seen in the bonus section of the game itself. The bit of text you some times encounter don't contain much more besides a description (as if you are blind). Not much of a rationale or anything else.

One thing that becomes very obvious from the Uncharted 2 artbook is that Naughty Dog had quite some awesome ideas for the final part of the game (Shambhala) but they cut that part short in the game. Really, the concept art for shambhala is awesome.

Bioshock's developer artbook "Breaking the mold" is much much better than Uncharted 2's artbook.

"God of War III" artbook will probably be nothing more that a bunch of pretty pictures with barely some interesting text. On top of that, the world of God of War III is way less "pretty" than Uncharted 2's world.
