To the surprise of no one, Sony has announced that on November 3, a slim PlayStation 3 with a 250 GB HDD will be available at retailers in North America. The cost? $349.99.
According to Sony, there will be absolutely no difference in functionality between it and the current 120 GB slim model, save for more hard drive space. So with that in mind, please direct yourself to our hands-on/unboxing, as well as our other coverage. That should answer your questions, in case you have any.
If the 120 GB slim PlayStation 3 didn't push you to purchase one, will the addition of those extra gigs finally do it for you?

in a word, absolutely
In the UK the 250GB PS3 slim is being bundled with Uncharted 2 for free which is a bloody good deal at £284.99 since most retailers will give you another game as well and there's a bundle with X-men Origins: Wolverine and The Dark Knight on blu-ray for free starting on Monday.
But I'm sure that women around the world would be impressed with that 2TB harddrive I saw...
I really want to make an excuse to get a slim, it's so pretty and conveniently smaller, considering I can barely afford Uncharted 2, I think I'll pass.

Those stupid little screws that hold in the hard drive thread SO easily, they're an incredible pain in the ass.
Now if only they'll just upgrade to a Netflix price model for PSN movies, but I realize this is Sony we're talking about.
Why would you need a 1 TB drive in a playstation?
Sometimes I don't feel like I'm actually a gamer because I'm not incredibly gluttonous and materialistic. But then I just forget about it and go play some games or something.
You'd be surprised how much you will put on a harddrive once you don't have to worry too much about filling it. The great thing is that the majority won't be used for gaming at all. After your downloaded games, installs and saves, the rest is just for pure entertainment. You can put all of your music on it, rip your CDs, load up all your movies/tv shows and backups, dump all your digital photos into it, download game trailers to watch, download every demo off of PSN, reinstall Home.
Yes the PS3 is a gaming system but it makes a damn good media centre too!!
to use it for media center storage? I've got over 150GB of videos stored on mine.
If you'll excuse me, I have more tickets to scratch.
...
Have you seen what they've done in the past? There's no way one SKU would have sufficed for them.
I'm not even a 360 hater but this just seems like Sony rubbing the REAL cost of that much storage it in their faces.
i kinda agree with you, but at my work we're selling the 120GB elite for $447 and the MW2 console for $599, so for an extra $150ish you're getting the extra 130GB, extra controller and a copy of the game so when bundled with a console the extra hard drive space doesn't cost that much extra
the real comparison would be if sony sold a HDD for the ps3 and to see how much they charge for it.My guess that it would be more expensive than the 360 one, just for the fact that ps3 controllers and ps3 headsets are more expensive than the 360 ones
However, we shall never know because of the way that the ps3 HDD has been set up to be user upgradable :)
(all doller values in $AUS)
My PS2 is practically dead with that stupid read disc error
firstly, sony did release a keyboard exclusive for the ps3, and it's some ugly bluetooth one that costs $80.
secondly, i did say that the ps3 is user upgradable.
i think you have missed what my point was. All i was saying that if the ps3 wasn't set up the way it was, and you did need to buy a hard drive for it my opinion (and as i said in my previous post "my guess") is that it would be more expensive than the 360 one.
and i know that this is every fan boys favorite comment, but i do own both consoles, and i play both consoles quite regularly. my entire point was that seeing how i manage an EB games store, i know the prices of various accessorys and that all ps3 one's are more expensive than the 360 ones. I wasn't complaining about sony at all, i think that it's one of the best features of the ps3 that you can change the hard drive to what ever you want.
So please don't talk to me like im an idiot fanboy who hates sony, because there was no hate at all in my post and i'm not a fanboy and seeing how you defend sony like that and don't even know that there was a keyboard for the ps3 frankly just makes you look like the idiot wanna be fanboy.
:)
I am baffled.
