2012 IGF Main Competition finalists named photo

The results are in for the 2012 Independent Games Festival. Hundreds of entrants were narrowed down considerably, and what we're left with is a delightful collection of very different games. The finalists for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize are:

Be sure to read over the finalists for the other Main Competition categories -- plus the honorable mentions -- sometime before the winners are named during the Game Developers Conference early next month. Consider this list a cheat sheet of notable games if you don't regularly follow the indie scene.

Just started getting into indie games lately. In fact I don't think I've played anything but indie games for the past month. Some of the best games I've ever played.

I entered my game into IGF but didn't get any nominations boo. Our build we submitted was probably a little too early a version to really compete. Check out the trailer if you're interested. It's called Rhythm Destruction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dewETqxNWP0

I remember writing about the original Dear Esther mod years ago. The thing blew me away with its atmosphere. It really brought out the interactivity of games in ways that stunned me.
Like the time I was trying to cut time by jumping from a high place, but it was too high and the narrator said that I may have broken some bones and the landing. Recent games like that may be Bastion. Would love to see more experimentation and application of those concepts into larger scope games.

There's so many indie games these days the IGF is kind of irrelevant now. But Frozen Synapse is pretty awesome, they deserve anything more they can get.

Goddammit Jimmy...

@mrmajoni

Unfortunately we've all had to do it at least once before. Just take a shower and have a few shots. Not necessarily in that order.

I was hoping that Iconoclasts would make it to the finals, but I should of known better since IGF went more mainstream after 2009,

Its strange how the same games are allowed to be entered for multiple years, FEZ won an award in 2008
