Jim Blackhurst, online operations manager at Square Enix and Eidos, made this fancy little video that depicts a map of all the player deaths in Just Cause 2. And not just player deaths, but death by impact with terrain or an object -- 11.3 million of them.

It's mindboggling how the total of all these instances can create such a map, especially when you see that the dots that represent impact death can form some of the larger structures involved in the game's missions. How do so many people die of impact 10 meters above the ground?

The video also shows how players either explore very little off the beaten track, or simply don't die as much if they do. It's nice to see plenty of deaths surrounding the flying night club though; I think we all contributed at least a few deaths there.

10 meters off the ground would be from trying to grapple/parachute away from enemy fire. Unsuccessfully.

That's spiffy and all, but it needs to be stated that priority numero uno for Just Cause 3 needs to be a free-roaming multiplayer mode. You've got this massive map and all of these wonderfully batty stunts. It just stands to reason that you'd want to share this with your friends.

I saw this game going for £10 on console in Sainsbury's. It's a steal at that price as was SFIV for £5.

Square Enix kept track of all the deaths in this game?

My respect has grown.

@waves:

But dying from that wouldn't be an impact death, unless you happened to lose your last 1hp from the impact or something.

I have to agree with PrinceHeir. I had at least 36 times more fun with JC2 than any GTA. The missions got slightly repetitive after a while, but the island is so varied, it was always still fun to just explore.
