Development of Aban Hawkins and the 1001 Spikes is over, which appears to have put Nicalis into full throttle publicizing mode. That's great news, as I'll take any excuse I can get to talk about good old Aban and company. This game does four-player 2D platforming co-op better than just about anyone else. It's like New Super Mario Bros U but with tons of different playable characters each with their own distinct strengths and weaknesses, or Smash Bros. Brawl Subspace Emissary mode but with amazing level design and pixel-perfect precision platforming.
It's also similar to Smash Bros. in crossover arena, as the game offers a large cast of characters hailing from a variety of sources. Here we get a quick look at Aban's sister Tina, Thompson, Sugimoto, and Zombie from Tempura of the Dead, Commander Video from the Bit.Trip series, Nyx from Nyx's Quest, Curly Brace from Cave Story, and the newly announced Juni from Knytt Stories. That's just the start of the surprises, folks.
Each of these characters is playable in single-player campaign (featuring their own character-specific cut scenes), multiplayer campaign, a bonus multiplayer campaign, and Vs. multiplayer. This was a game that was designed to be played with friends for months on end, if not years. In fact, I'll it may take that long for most of you to unlock all of the games content. It's the whopper, alright?
