100 zombies on screen in Dead Rising Wii? photo

Since Capcom officially unveiled Dead Rising: Chop ‘Til You Drop, we have been patiently wondering what exactly the title could do. The last press release we got our hands on said that “Hoards of enemies on screen at once” would assault our senses and make our Wii remote hands tremble. How many is a hoard? According to WiisWorld and their issue of Nintendo Power, a hoard could possibly be 100 zombies. At least, that’s what Capcom said they are aiming to do.

I won’t go on a tangent dismissing the Wii’s graphical prowess, but something tells me that if Capcom succeeded in such a valiant task, those zombies would look mighty pixilated. But who knows, Mario Party 47 was able to fit up to four characters on the screen at once, so the options are limitless.

With Capcom on the case for 100 zombies, I’m only left to care about how many lawnmowers will be available. Ideally, there should be more than one.

They forgot to mention that the 100 zombies will be in a 2D, gray scale environment.

There will be 100 zombies in 3D on screen, they'll just be standing still.

DO HO HO

I salute Capcom for even trying, and double for the fact they seem to want to give the Wii a respectable port. I don't understand why developers seem to think Wii owners are okay with receiving half-assed, stripped down ports (see: Rock Band) at the same price tag (or perhaps ever so slightly less) as their 360 and PS3 brethren.

I was just thinking the same thing. I love how we weren't going to go on tangents knocking the Wii for not being as graphically strong as the other consoles, yet that's what everyone just did anyway.

Considering I had always hoped for a PS3 port of this game I seriously see this as a giant swift kick to my gaming nuts. That screenshot looks absolutely horrible and out-dated and if that is REALLY how many zombies are being rendered then there is no reason to even fight any. You just run around them!

Seriously Capcom...WTF.

Laaaaaaaaaag.

Thats what I see for the future of this game.

I still want a Wii, they need to maybe... but some in stores?

Yeah, I wouldnt be shocked if there were 10-20 zombies of varying LOD 3D models in the foreground and a bunch of artfully blurred cardboard cutouts in the background that get subbed out for the 3D real-deal as you get closer/thin out the zombies near you.

Highly skeptical of claims.

Honestly, after Capcom released Resident Evil 2 for the N64.. FMV and all.. I think they can do anything.

Man, the framerate is going to be in the teens to single digits with 100+ zombies on screen.

It wouldn't be the first time the Wii has handled 100+ enemies on screen at the same time.

WITNESS, THE, POWAHHHHHHH

Obviously, I'll wait for reviews, but I wouldn't call it a flat-out lie until we see their work.

100 zombies means you only get 4 weapons now. And they're all golf clubs. ::sigh::

I trust Capcom, but not on this. No one can do 100 of anything on the Wii. Maybe 10 zombies max before the system conks out.

I'd be impressed if they can pull it off without a majro hit to the framerate.

It's irrelevant how many Zombies they can fit on the screen. I have faith Capcom will at least succeed in making the game a fun alternative for those of us without XBox360. Regardless if it has 10 Zombies or 100 Zombies, as long as the game is fun to play, I'm happy.

Problem is... 10 zombies doesnt make it much fun.

I don't see why everyone doubts this. The Wii is more powerful than the PS2, I don't think anyone would argue with that, and the Dynasty Warriors games have been doing several hundred enemies on-screen for years on PS2!

This is not to say that I think the Wii Dead Rising will be that great (I'm happy with my 360 copy), I just don't think 100 zombies onscreen at a time is that big a deal.

Dead Rising Wii will include 80 zombie stickers to put on your TV for added realism. :)

I'm amazed at the amount of apparent hate for a Wii port of this game. We've been clamoring for third party titles on the Wii since launch day and now that we're getting it nobody wants it? Not just a third party title, but one that isn't half-assed, one with genuine effort put in? What the fuck is going on here?

No fool, Mario Party 47 had 3 players at once, it wasn't until Mario Party 63 (released 3 months later) did they throw that 4th player on screen.

They mean 100 in the game total and each of them will tell you something interesting before you defeat, not kill them. This will be accomplished using a magic squeaky hammer with which you have to mime out dance moves by waggling the wiimote while trying to press button 2 at the same time without dropping the controller.

Lol, yeah. Start playing the music from 'Enter the Dragon', and you may have a good idea for a movie scene...
