100,000 kills for an achievement photo

I know some of you out there really enjoy achievements, but how far would you go to earn one? Cliff Bleszinski revealed to OXM UK that Gears of War 2’s “Seriously…” achievement is now asking players to kill 100,000 enemies. If you remember, the achievement of the same name in Gears of War required 10,000 kills. To make matters worse, only single player and cooperative kills will count towards this new total.

I played the original Gears of War competitively for quite awhile and I don’t think I am close to the “Seriously…” achievement.  It’s probably indicative of my skill, but this new one seems almost impossible to hit. Despite the difficulty I’m sure there’s someone out there who ventilates through a COG mask that will be able to get this in a matter of days.

What do you guys think? Is this too hard to obtain or is this the perfect achievement to keep you focused on the campaign portion of Gears of War 2?

Is the caption in the photo right? It seems to allude to 1, 000, 000 kills. Surely if 100, 000 is the amount it should be "only 99,999 more to go"? No?

I'll take 100,000 kills in single player over 10,000 in ranked any day of the week. Ranked achievements ALWAYS suck because it's a crapshoot as to if you're gonna get it in a timely fashion.

Unless you're Snaileb.

And this will give like, 5-10 gamerpoints?

Remember that they are fitting loads of bad guys on screen this time, and you can ride brumaks and use gun emplacements, there's probably loads of overkill which will rack up the total loads.

still sounds alot don't get me wrong.

@DanGale - The goal was just to be funny about math. I guess it just makes me look like an ass in the end. Will fix to clear up confusion.

I personally don't care about achievements but I think it's better that they be too hard to get rather than too easy.

Ah, sorry Brad. It was too dry for me, and I'm British. Accept my apologies. :)

Meh, sillyness is silly. I've decided that achievements and trophies are just not for me. Some people like the extra fun put in to games for free, but shouldn't the game itself be enough? Why should achievements take the place of in game content? GTA IV anyone?

I'll play it, have fun with it and after that I'll move to another game of a hundred others on my 'to play' list. I'll never understand why achievements in games is "newsworthy" but whatever, lots of people love em it seems. More power to em. Game on!

That's a very lame achievement that I won't even begin to start progress towards.

Well...it does seem a bit excessive...since it's single and Co-Op how many kills per game are we talking?

Say there's 1000 enemies to kill through the campain that'd mean you'd have to play it through a whooping 100 times. WTF.

I'm with DVD on this one, its gonna be more like farming to get this achievment, which I guess makes it faster to get, just as tedious as waiting for Dane Cook to get to the punch line.

This sort of achievement is only a problem if you're a compulsive completionist. I like to think of it as a pat on the back/worried glance for anyone who plays the game enough to rack up that many kills.

Still, if you actually plan on going for it, it's probably much more doable in singleplayer. If I took the effort, I'm sure I could get this achievement, while the one in the original Gears is beyond my ability because it's in ranked with people who are actually good at the game. Then again, playing the same thing over and over is much more tedious than the variety of online matches.

If the new co-op mode counts, where hordes after hordes of enemies come after you, it doesn't sound that bad.

I want an achivement for 100,000 team kills.

Now that would be awesome.

Wasn't there an achievement in The Club called 'No, Seriously' which required 10,001 kills?

Someone will have to figure out how many times you'll have to play through this game to get the achievement.

I think this is an indicator to how much ass kicking you will have to do to beat this game. I'm sure it will take more than one run through, but there are going to be alot of enemies and alot of various ways to kill them. Which is nice.

I think 10 000 would be too easy considering that there is a massive boost to the number of enemies on screen. I'm sure there will be scenes that you'll be killing hundreds like in heavenly sword with a big cannon or something.

100 000 still sounds ludicrous, tho.

Some achievements are fun to try and get. Like jugling cars with rockets and stuff. 100 000 kills doesnt sound like fun. Sounds like a lame attempt by the developers to get you to just play their game forever. And show everyone on Live just how much free time you have.

I'm usually not a big fan of "First!" comments, but the first dtoider to get this achievement sould post a new thread in the forum with a picture of the screen showing the achievement unlocked.

As a reward they shall win one (1) internet.

And then others can follow suit.

This is stupid. I'm not sure if they watch their current game, but almost everybody who has the "Seriously..." Achievement got it by glitching. 10,000 kills is too many, and now they're increasing it to 100,000? Talk about artificially increasing replay value...

Yea but killing 1,000 enemies in Dynasty Warriors is quite common, this is fucking retarded, I've been playing the Halo multi since the 25th of sep when it came out, I'm not even close to 10,000 kills, much less 100,000.

Only thing I can think of is that horde will provide huge numbers enough to get this.

Seriously, Dead Rising spoiled killscore achievements for every other game.

You do realize that if it's Campaign only, it's actually far easier than Seriously? Enemies die a lot quicker and in larger quantities in Campaign.
