10-year-old arrested for stealing from a fruit machine photo

You know, there are some people out there who complain when blogs write crime stories that are tenuously linked to games, but this one is just too brilliant to keep to myself. A ten-year-old British boy was arrested on Friday for climbing inside a fruit machine at an arcade and releasing the prizes inside, including mobile phones, Nintendo games and cuddly toys with cash attached to them.

Wow, talk about an inside job ... shut up, that was an awesome gag.

The would-be ninja was caught and arrested on the spot at Mirage Arcade, Mablethorpe High Street. He was voluntarily interviewed by police with the supervision of a family member, where he admitted to the theft. After receiving a stern talking-to about his criminal ways, the boy was released.

This news is absolutely brilliant and I defy you to find a funnier story today revolving around a small boy, a fruit machine and an arcade in Mablethorpe.

Are you kidding me? This is clearly related to video games! I remember very vividly playing a mission like this in GTA and having to climb into one of those machines as Niko. This is clearly the fault of video games!

I remember those machines with stuff like phones and DS's inside. The kid is a genius though, I bet he's done it before too. Seems like he knows what he's doing.

Are UK machines that big, or was the kid that small? :)

This sounds more like it was one of those things with the mechanical arm inside a big perspex cabinet that challenges you to pick an item up and drop it through a trapdoor, only to find the spring on the door will resist anything up to the weight of a small child. I don't know any fruit machines that give out phones :S

It's about time someone got their own back on those damn machines.

Slightly amusing in a ten-year-old Robinhood sort of way, but tragic at the same time. Crime is crime, and that little bugger most likely got his hide tanned when he got home.

@protomark

He's going for the Jimside straight, one of the highest hands in Destructoid Poker.

Also, that boy has a promising criminal future. I'll need to keep an eye on him. I'm always on the lookout for new talent...

glimbrick:

It is an arcade in Margate, I deliberately chose it because I come from Kent and visit Thanet often.

Good thing nobody was hurt, or they just might summon You Know Who out of... forced retirement? Whatever happened to our best friend the lawyer, anyway?

Don't be fooled, this is VIDEO GAME related. They just managed to quell the part where he whipped out his Buster Sword and BFG 9000 and wasted half the customers, before exposing himself and slapping a baby, and then trying to hide in the fruit machine.

@Leathersoup Thanks for the vid, that was hilarious. I especially love the part where the older kid trys to tell the mom that the little one is in the machine and you can tell the mom thinks he's full of shit and just walks on.

Can't wait until my son gets a little older.
