10 million Xbox 360s sold in Europe and counting photo

Microsoft has hit the 10 million mark for number of Xbox 360s sold throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The press release announcing the news states that the Xbox 360 is the only console in the region to achieve sales growth this year. The press release goes on to rile up Sony fanboys by stating that Xbox Live is at least 12 to 18 months ahead of the PlayStation Network in terms of service and content.

So who's using the Xbox 360? Well about 35% of customers are women, 54% are over the age of 25 and Xbox 360s fill up about 60% of family living rooms.

And more happy news for the Xbox 360! Major Nelson Tweeted that for the first time ever, over two million people connected to Xbox Live at once today. Modern Warfare 2 most likely had a big hand in today's record setting number.

Why can't we just be at peace and say both services are equally good?

Wait. 10 million systems, and how much did MW2 reportedly sell? Wasn't it something crazy like 1.4 million day one? That seems like a super high percentage to me, but what do i know?

i own all current gen consoles but personally i have grown to hate my xbox, 3 red rings in 2 years and one of them took 3 months to get replaced hence i started using my ps3 more and more i cant say i see much of a deference in quality of online service they seem equal atm but as far as quality control on the console itself well you get my point

lol whats funny is that about 3 month ago they said they where ahead of ps3 in EU by 1mill wich would make it 11mil at that time, So if they are growing year to date, then how come they just all of a sudden reach 10mil when they were ahead of that month ago. lol MS lies

Maybe - 1 mil due to RROD? The thing has like a 78% chance to fail.

@happy chainsaw man

Dont forget the 10million figure doesn't include U.S.A. Though it's still a healthy percentage.

It would be a sad thing for them if they were behind Sony by a year in service - since they released a year earlier.

I guess I am complete opposite. Of all the current console, I got more attached to the 360 even after the RROD. I do have PS3 like most of other gamers, but I rarely use it. Borderland on 360 took me by surprise and I still haven't touched the uncharted 2 yet. MW2 came in today so I figure I will be spending a lot more time on 360. I say I use about 85% 360 gaming. 10% PS3. 5% PC and Mac.

"The thing has like a 78% chance to fail."

Did you find that figure in fanboys monthly? ^^

That's a lot of 360s. It's good to see that Europe is doing their part to support the industry.

I'm surprised that Europe contributed so much to an American company! I only say that because Japan seems to abhor the thing XD. Still, pretty decent land mark, congrats MS.

I just bought a PSP this week and I was really surprised at how little was on the PSN store. But more and more games are getting put on both PSN/XBLA, so hopefully it evens out soon! The less console wars I hear, the better. =)

Ironically didn't they just ban about a million members allegedly? Nice.

i guess its a matter of taste too, i was a ps1 kid so the controller feels a bit more natural to me

Given enough time, everything has a fail-rate of 100%. The 360 just seems to get to that point a hell of a lot faster than every system out there short of the Jaguar CD.

@ Electrium
But without console wars, we'd have no system-selling first-party titles. Do you think Uncharted 2 would have been nearly as good as it was if Sony had this race in the bag? Without console wars, there's no reason to excel. It's why I've always had a fascination with whoever is losing the race (well, within reason) - they tend to pull out all the stops.

@ ParticleSt0rm

Judging by reports, that seems fairly accurate to me, despite what Microsoft likes to make us all think.

How the fuck do you measure quality in units of time? 12 to 18 months ahead? The fuck that even mean?

@Dantes Lobo - because PSN is free and they don't want their customers to feel stupid for paying for something that has a free equivalent on another console. And God forbid if people actually started believing that they deserve multiplayer free of charge.

PSN doesn't have the same focus or sense of community. It's still bloody good for a free service, but it aint as good as live, thems just the facts as they seem to me. No fucker seems to want to talk on PSN - PS3 needs to bundle headsets, man. MAG will definitely have to bundle headsets. Teamwork is fail without headsets. Teamwork is much rarer in the PSN games I've played over the LIVE, but that could just be coincidence, I guess.

Every console is a work in progress. IMO, Sony's PS3 has been in that state for more or less past 3 years and it still suffers on the slow growth. 360's success despite the RROD comes from a focused business model. Imagine if MS comes up with 720 with BD today, it will choke PS3 profit margin even more. It's too bad Microsoft probably can't pull the 720 miracle due to all the money wasted on the RROD support. Most companies would have been out of business with RROD by now. If 360 didn't get the bad rep on RROD, it would have been the definitive success. In this rate, I think Sony will come up with PS3.5 or PS4 before Microsoft. CELL is powerful, but the GPU and memory on PS3 is still big joke. Maybe allowing Nvidia to develop new chipset with physix's support may not be a bad idea. Now, nintendon't....I don't know what to tell you.

I agree competition is good, and I'm just waiting for a little more pressure to be put on MS before I buy a 360.

$250 for XBL, Headset, and 100+GB HDD sounds reasonable, but $200 would be solid

I'm with Fission Mailed, are we now going to start saying XBL has about 7 kilometers more fun available? What the fuck is time when comparing online services?
