1 vs 100 is free for Xbox Live Gold members photo

Remember 1 vs 100? It was that ridiculous game show tie-in idea that Microsoft used as one of the key selling points of the New Xbox Experience before everybody forgot it existed. Well, 1 vs 100 is due to to launch this Spring, and the news is that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will have the game included as part of their membership. Good, because I wouldn't have paid extra for that.

This represents perhaps the first time Microsoft has "given" something to Gold subscribers, rather than just taken stuff away from Silver members to create the illusion of giving stuff to Gold subscribers. Players will be able to take part in a "socially interactive game experience" that brings the "fun and freshness of a television show in a massively multiplayer online game."

It's a ludicrous idea, but it'll probably be quite fun. It's just nice to see XBL Gold actually get something unique, rather than access to stuff that other platforms provide for free.

You are a dork. Silverlight is something you're going to have to get used to.

I heard later on they're gonna have like Tournaments (or something) where winners win ACTUAL prizes. Maybe like a few points, or a free theme, etc.

I wouldn't expect winning cars from Microsoft.....

Installing 3rd party software to view pictures online is just stupid. I don't care what "extra" features it offers over viewing a picture.

I won't complain. I might not use it, but free is free.

Do not install Silverlight.

1) It's just MS trying to combat Flash for NO REASON
2) They require you to use it for SCREANSHOTS. That alone is beyond dumb.

this is a smart move on their part. I said it before and i will say it again, this could be incredibly fruitful if MS treats it right and it gets off the ground. this site really doesnt cater to the type of people they are looking to cull in with this kind of announcement. think about it, do any of you watch 1 vs 100 on tv? do any of the people you can think of who do watch normally think about video games in this way? they are trying to pull in the oh-so-juicy tv-watching non-gamers. and this kind of interactive, but not-quite full on video game experience with the idea of playing for free with real prizes to be won, whilst playing against hundreds if not thousands of other people in real time... yeah. this could be fruitful for them. sell some ad space on the interface and watch this blow the fuck up and fill some people's pockets fulla dough.

Silverlight as it stands is many times better than flash.

having said that, nobody but MS uses it, so it can stay the hell away from my browser until people do.

I have Silverlight. I think I've been to three sites that use it. But what's the problem? It doesn't bog your machine, so there's no issue having it.

I suppose refusing to load it is more of a statement than a pragmatic quandary.

Hope Major Nelson gets to live out his game show fantasies and be the host. I'd check it out if he was!

Never seen the game show, but I interested in checking this out. Could be fun, and prizes are rarely a bad thing.

A free game show sounds like it could be a fun change to always playing shooters online with friends....it can replace UNO which has become more of a chatroom

While no one's going to disagree with you that having to use Silverlight to view screenshots is silly, it's *NOT* just a simple flash clone. It actually offers a lot of good features particuarly in the realm of HD video streaming (it actually supports h264 codec) among other things that flash was never designed to do.

Netflix is using Silverlight for there video on demand service. They chose it because it solves a lot of issues that other apps didn't. As for the "3rd party apps" comment it's from microsoft so unless your using OSX or Lynix it would be a first party app. I'm not a big fan of having to install another app to view content either but silverlight is not a big deal. Why such a fuss over 2 minutes of your time O.o. I think that MS created Silverlight so they wouldn't have to pay Adobe/Macromedia money to use there product but they did a pretty decent job at it. You'll be seeing more of silverlight whether you engage in a pointless personal boycott or not. Thanks for the info on 1 vs 100 can't see myself playing but free is a good price so you never know.

You're a loser sterling.

Silver members deserve nothing. $4 bucks a month for xbox live is cheap as hell, if you can't hack it you've got problems.

@Gott:

Your a loser.

How do silver members deserve nothing when every other platfrom including the PC offers online play for free? You deserve to be locked up methinks.
