Yay! Another person that makes me feel inadequate!

I have been fiddling around in the LittleBigPlanet beta for about a week now and have not even come close to creating anything this unbelievably impressive. PSN user Upsilandre has created a level in LittleBigPlanet featuring an actual working calculator.

Now, at first this seems kind of boring and almost shrug-worthy. But before you dismiss it, keep in mind that there is nothing in LittleBigPlanet that allows you to just easily create something that adds and subtracts numbers. Upsilandre constructed this ingenious gizmo using more than 1600 parts, including 610 magnetic switches, 500 wires, and 430 pistons.

Honestly, I can’t even begin to comprehend how he/she even attempted to do this.

What do you think? Are you impressed by the level of skill shown in some of these early LittleBigPlanet levels? Like me, are you embarrassed to even show your creation to the world now? What do you think levels will look like once the game finally hits retail (I may as well start hanging my head in shame now)?

Bonus points to the first person who can start work on Deep Thought.

Oh My Actual God :|! Thats amazing, being a mechanical engineering student I know how much effort that would have taken. I was going to get LBP beforehand but now im going to try and get it early from the shop that just happens to be ignorant of street dates!

Ingenious. The next logical step is a Turing machine! Hell, if someone can make one out of the Game of Life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway%27s_Game_of_Life) I'm sure it can be done in LBP.

*Seriously considering a PS3 purchase*

Yay for people without lives?
I feel sorry for anyone that looks at this as some form of a selling point to buy this thing...or for that matter any video of gameplay that I've seen of the thing (not a single level has been made yet that appears as much fun as world 1-1 in mario for gods sakes...let alone compare to anything remotely as modern as mario 3), but this takes the cake.

E-peen the video game.

And this is what comes out before the public release. What are LBP levels going to look like in about six months?

But the question is...

will it transfer?

@Mr B Natural

Is it fair to have such high expectations from amateur level creators compared to a well-funded, experienced development team?

Anyway, that shit looks INSANE. My brain don't know what the fuck.

Yeah when I saw this I thought to myself, "what's the big deal". I then saw how complicated the machine actually was and I dropped my jaw. I'm an electrical engineer and I spend my entire day designing extremely complex integrated circuits, and this just completely blew my mind.

Just google mechanical calculator and base your design of the schematic. Designs such as this have existed since Archimedes time. It's cool but I'm sure anyone with a descent aptitude for mechanical engineering could figure it out. This guy just did it first.

Seriously, this may be enough ot make me buy a PS3. Although if ever there were something I wish were on PC this may just be it.

Holy pulley system batman that's complicated. I never thought I would say this about a calculator, but that is bad ass.
