Console owners have been playing around with "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" for a while now, but the Borderlands add-on is only now finalized and up for the taking on PC. Owners of the retail version need to go here, while those with the Steam release must head this way.
While depending on your level -- especially when dealing with a cooperative situation -- this DLC can be a bit of a bummer and require you to do a new character so that you aren't too powerful or weak against enemies, I'd still recommend it. That was probably the only legitimate issue I had.
A nice change of scenery, a greater focus on presenting the narrative than the main game had, loads of humor including references to Dead Alive and Scooby-Doo, and effing zombies make this worth a download in my eyes. Plus, the final boss is out of control.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
3rd-party DRM: SecuROM™
5 machine activation limit
I mean first using Gamespy and now this? These guys used to work with Valve - was there a falling out? Why not try to work something out via Steam. Disappointing. Still, my GOTY without question, but I'll be looking for a way to get this sans securom. You only hurt the ones that love you with that kind of crap.
10 bucks is a reasonable amount, and just because TF2 has free DLC doesn't mean it's the new standard. DLC is a privilege, not a right.
Also, I'm excited to give this a go!
The free DLC on PC thing is more about mutliplayer maps and such. Free singleplayer content of this size and scope has rarely been free on any platform.
Honestly I am a PC-only gamer but still feel that PC gamers need to stop whining about prices and DLC and pay up. Today's games cost a lot of money to make.
limited activations does NOT mean you have to buy it again...you just have to jump thru some hopps (and possibly make a phone call) to get the activations reset if you legitimately install it more than 5 times. While SecureROM is an evil form of malware, Steams own method of DRM is no less intrusive (everyone has just accepted Steam and "trusts" it).
why does nobody seem to know or say, and no websites (incl. official ones) make mention of the level requirement?
or does it automatically scale to your toon?
In theory Gearboxx themselves say it level scales, but the opening cutscene for the dlc (as seen on the ten minute taste here) mentions that you've found the vault, so I'd say level 36ish (i.e. right after playthrough 1) is the sweet spot.
