To be honest... I don't mind having a female avatar on my PSN ID. I don't mind playing as Elena or Chloe in Uncharted 3. And I love playing as the Brigand and the Courtesan (my personal favorite of the bunch) in Assassin's Creed Multiplayer.
I have no such thing against women in video games. I actually like playing as a women, it's different and adds more variety to your gameplay. You almost, ALWAYS play as a guy in video games just because that's your gender right? You're forced to play as whatever your gender is right? Just like with fighting games, do you ever play as the FEMALE characters? I find myself kicking a lot more ass at Mortal Kombat with Katana by the way. It's hilarious how such people feel this way.

I do like it when women actually do have stat differences in games... not to the mindumbingly dumb extent that guy described, but like how in fighting games, the females tend to be slightly weaker than the guys, but wayy faster. Also, I bet those guys hate dudes like me that play as girls when games give me the option. Because games are serious business.
Personally I can care less if a game has female asskickers or not, as long as its well written. Hell, I play predominately female characters in MMOs because I like having a female asskicker (and, well, usually they look far better then the doofy male models we're given. I have a hard time wanting to look at shit design and animation)
As for some of the stuff like "It's pretty alarming how many of these guys are terrified of the idea that a woman might be physically more able than them, or not need to rely on a man's assistance" maybe he read that article posted a few months ago where that religious guy told guys to man up and stop playing their vidya because women were getting more jobs then men, and men were acting like lazy children (think you posted it, Jim). That'd probably piss him off just as much, I guess lol.
Second ones funny to me because I played a female rogue dwarf in DA:O and was super fine with her. Couldn't stand to look at a male and actually liked the way the females looked (for once, I usually universally hate Dwarf character models -I guess we need a forum for that "WTF is with empowered Dwarfs in video games now?"). one of the best class/race combos and I played that game for what feels like forever.
Also, Fallout 3.. Again female character for no other reason then it seemed much cooler to have a female in place.
Only reason I went with default male shep in Mass Effect was because I'm OCD and couldn't push myself to make anyone other then the dude on the box.

Funny bit about that is that its often argued that females make better soldiers because of their heightened pain tolerance and bits about the instinct to protect and such. All study stuff I can't back up with numbers. So really, if we mesh the 2nd and 3rd quote together, and flip it so it isn't intolerant drivel, and we'd get.. Avaline from DA2: A woman warrior/soldier who can protect, has skills for "pain tolerance" and stats to help reflect her warriorness. And I'm more then fine with that, because she was a well rounded character.
I do like how 2 of the 3 quotes agree this is all brainwashing.. Brains do need washing, but not because theres some female kicking ass in a game.

Games need more realistic depictions of women and allow main characters that are both female and NOT hyper-sexualized. I am tired of picking up a game and seeing a female wearing nothing but nipple covers and a fig leaf as she fights off some evil doer(s). Throw in size 36E sized breasts, a generic "low" sexy voice, and a goddamn pistol! A pistol. Freaking man gets the big gun, but nope the female gets a goddamn pistol. Tch.

Well, this dude is obviously a retard, but not for the obvious reason. First, he calls empowered women in video games a "new" trend. Thing is, I don't like seeing butch women in games/TV/whatever only because it is just so goddamn cliche. It's so old! It's as cliche as amnesia, 7 artifacts to collect, "we're the same, you and I", etc and so on.
Honestly, I'd like to see more real female characters. Not female characters that exist to defy genre stereotypes or even embody them. Actually, scratch that last part; I'd like to see the female counter-argument to something like Serious Sam. Lollipop Chainsaw is probably that game. The main character is a total embodiment of female stereotypes. The problem is characters in general both male and female need to be improved and expanded upon. We are not so two-dimensional as to be either personality M or personality F. Done away with this awful notion of masculinity and femininity.

My favorite is the "women characters have no penalty for intelligence" part. The irony is, they assume real-life women really are less intelligent than men but don't consider that they STILL they become doctors, presidents, ministers, CEOs and so forth. So if dumb women can accomplish that much and most "intelligent" men are ordinary joes, the obvious conclusion is that men are either far lazier or far more stupid than women!!!!

Thank you, Jim. Sometimes, an awful enough thing on the internet needs to be opened up for mocking and analysis by shining a light on it. Also, check out the comments for any CNN story ever. I always have to look, even though it's always a depressing experience.

While I doubt all "nuns" would be stronger than all other warriors, that doesn't mean that shogun 2 is "brainwashing" me into thinking of another human being as equal. Furthermore, it would not surprise me at all if it were historically accurate either, as there were quite a few renowned, strong female warriors in Japan.

All my male gamers friends I know choose female characters because they told me "I don't want to stare at a male ass while I play this game".
I've heard the "I don't want to stare at male ass" excuse hundreds of times. If you're staring at your character's ass you aren't paying attention and clearly you have a problem.

@JoeTheProYaKnow- If you don't want to play games with customizable protagonists or limit yourself to survival horror or 1st/3rd person shooters or JRPGs like Suikoden(especially the 3rd installment), you could play Shock Troopers and select Big Mama. That way, you can still play and your fiancee won't be mad at you.

@Syn: I wouldn't entirely cross that out, when playing games - particularly RPGs which allow character creation/choice some people tend to create a character that they find visually pleasing rather than a character that represents themselves, I'm guilty of doing it, and I know others (both male and female) that also choose the opposite sex to play as, it's just a thing that people do.
