In a fairly in-depth report from What They Play, it was been suggested that Nintendo is privately showing off a “complete refresh” of the Wii console that would include high-definition capability. A shadowy source that was consulted in the article revealed that the new console will arrive in 2011, right when first HD resolution television comes off factory presses.
The new Wii is being dubbed by developers as the “Wii HD” and is being looked at much like the transition from Gameboy to Gameboy Color. Wii HD will consist of all the previous staples of the regular Wii, right down to the lack of a reliable storage device even though more DLC is one of the alleged enhancements surrounding the console.
This rumor is based on a source person and an elaborate money trail that Nintendo has left behind in regards to research and development. Its only real substantiation is the source person. Regardless, Wii HD is certainly an interesting proposition.
Do you guys want a new Wii revision? Do you feel like it will be needed considering the amount of cash Nintendo will presumably continue to make on the casual console?

[UPDATE: A man couldn't be any more wrong. Thanks a bundle, Chad. I checked out the source again and read this passage:
...new system will feature some form of local storage medium such as a hard drive or large flash memory solution
So this means that I am an idiot AND according to the rumor, we may actually have a solution for our storage woes. Awesome.]

Wii hasn't been milked to death enough.
However, I think it's still painfully obvious that before high definition on the priority list, a hard drive, or at least the ability to play directly from SD cards, should be in the works. The storage now is an abomination, and I say that as a person who has completely filled up his Wii's flash memory, and has had to go through the unnecessarily lengthy process of moving things to an SD just to make room for new stuff.
Including myself, i bought my wii in june 08'
it only has 3 great games, and the rest is crap
i don't want to pay to play again those 3 games in HD!
If it really does come out in 2011, that's right about inline for a 5 year console cycle.
Nintendo, I love you guys, but you've really got to get on the ball here. -.-u
(of course, that's assuming that the rumor is 100% factual, which I'm not entirely convinced of...)
I doubt this is true tough, it would be a stupid financial move.
This especially won't happen when the new system's only upselling features are things people blissfully ignore when they buy the system today.
but they forgot to show anyone the wiimotion plus till after it was announced
riiiiiiight sounds likely
Unless they throw in a faster GPU to keep the framerate the same.
and then force games to run at HD res by hardware level it won't happen.
and even then it probley will not happen since that screw with the speed and timing of games and will lead to compatible hardware issues.
it is not a PC where games are made ot work with all speeds and kinds of gpu at many resoltions.
unless they fix there DRM wich is some of the worse ever that ties, all downloads to one wii
they are not going to get any pre existing buyers to upgrade.
and the ones who have 0 download content obviously do not care about downloads enough to buy one and they still got plenty of space.
hell i downloaded 1 game ever AKA mega man 9 and i still got gobs of space
a 8 gb sd card is enough space to hold every NES game ever made every SNES and every single genesis game with space left over.
and yes i did the math using the biggist cart from every console then applying it to the known libary.
and i may or may not have them coped on a DVD..
why do we need hard disk with wii when these new big ass SD cards are fine for the wii needs?
except for wii ware the roms of virtual console games take almost nothing.
and really who downloads wii ware?
They did that with the DS Lite, so this doesn't sound too farfetched, actually.

Wait a second! Isn't that exactly what people want? Isn't that the thing that people (I'm sure yourself included) bitch about all the time about the Wii? That's its not a HD console, and doesn't have a hard drive.
So now that Nintendo is going to be doing that with the next console in 2011 (you know 3 years from now) you're saying its dumb. What the hell do you want them to do? Nintendo said they are going HD with the console before the Wii even was the Wii. So how this would come as a shock to anyone is beyond me!
But that wouldn't be the Nintendo way. The answer for every console tweak is a new system.
