Sony has a PS3 exclusive in the works that, apparently, we "will not believe." It's due for unveiling at the Spike Videogame Awards on Saturday, but we've been given a little taste today, courtesy of a teaser site called The Last of Us.
The above trailer shows scenes of rioting and disease, leading many to speculate that yet another zombie game is in the works. The teaser site, however, contains a rather famous clip of an ant being infected with the parasitoid cordyceps unilateralis -- a type of mind-controlling brain fungus that forces ants to climb a plant and freeze in place until its ready to grow out of the victim's head. Of course, they could still just be using that as a zombie metaphor, but a game about mind-control fungus would be pretty great.
Either way, let the rudderless speculation run rampant!

I bet it's about commercialism. Has anyone ever thought of using zombies as a metaphor for how we all just mindlessly consume whatever the commercials tell us to? Huh? Like satire and all them smarts stuff you know? Yeah?
If it was supposed to be Exclusive Game , I hope it doesn't focus on Multiplayer shit but on Single Player and has a deep storyline and gameplay instead
Sony has once again ensnared us with their tautologies! If we so not believe their claim that we will not believe them, then they are correct. If we DO believe their claim, then we must not believe them! No matter who loses, they win! *shakes fist at uncaring cosmos*
@The Silent Protagonist,
sony's been pushing for Call of Duty style games(short and crappy campaign and emphasis on multiplayer that in sony published games sadly is usually severely underdeveloped) in the past several months - i'm not excited for another 5-7 hour forgettable campaign with barebone and mediocre multiplayer.
SunRa: Well, true. But Joystiq was the first to emphasize the "facts" behind this post, as most sites had horrid random speculation with most guessing it was either a zombie game or a new title from Quantic Dream. Yes, my comment was snotty and puerile, but I stand by it out of ignorant arrogance.
I don't think so. I got the same feeling as well, but this game is from SCEA, and Quantic Dream isn't owned by Sony.
So considering the Sony first party studios that aren't busy right now, you've got Guerrilla, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, and Media Molecule. Guerrilla is a European company, so I think they'd fall under SCEE, so they're out. This doesn't seem like Media Molecule's thing, so I think we can dismiss them. Sucker Punch is likely still busy with Cole McGrath for another game or two, so we can eliminate them.
That leaves Sony Santa Monica Studio, making this a Stig Asmussen joint.
@Rocefellow: Of course. I'm not innocent of snottiness, ignorance or arrogance myself. I was being sarcastic and defensive due to a glut of negativity on Dtoid lately. It hurts my sphincter.
I'll take a look at this game when the bullshit stops and there's an actual game to show off instead of YouTube clips strung together with an overdramatic voiceover.
WOW I used to respeckt u bud BUT with that Call of DUty comment u just showed that u know nothin about games or EVEN what makes a good game DO u even LIKE to play games? NUFF SAYD
I am absolutely fine with another zombie game. Hell, I don't care if its an FPS game. I wouldn't want it to be a military shooter though. I'd like to see a bunch of normal people fighting to survive Fallout style in a zombie wasteland though. Kinda like Dead Island, but with an actual storyline that doesn't make you want to laugh every time you hear someone speak.
Too many developers and publishers get caught up in the whole "FUCK YEAH! SHOOTIN ZOMBIES!" mood and the games end up being a blood-fest. Gore and violence is fine, but if this is a zombie game and it wants to stand it out it needs to be somber and carry a kind of calm intensity with it.
You know....now that I think about it....this kinda sounds like I Am Legend. The Richard Matheson book....not the shitty will smith movie that crapped on the original story.
I kind of wonder if it will be based on the popularity of "The Walking Dead" and be more survivalist than just bashing zombie brains in.. more of a strategic bent with finding resources and working cooperatively.
This parasite was mentioned in Resident Evil 4, with the specific example of it infecting an ant and making it stand on end at the end of a blade of grass to get eaten by sheep. So add in the zombie link as well...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It smells of something like a zombie apocalypse scenario, which automatically puts it in the "I'm not yet inclined to give a damn" category.
.......
It could happen.
.......
Shut up.

Because that's how the internet works.

Hard to say...
Yeah, anyway, Mr. Moskito 2.
