BioWare's Mass Effect franchise already has a rich narrative history. With two games in the can (and another one on the way), three books, an iPhone game, and comics, there's plenty to talk about.
Of course, Hollywood has taken notice, according to Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson. "Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture," he recently told MTV Movies Blog.
This isn't the first word we've heard of a Mass Effect film. Back in 2008 it was reported that Avi Arad has obtained the rights to create a film adaptation. But not so fast -- Hudson says there are a lot of factors that have to be in place before they really move forward.
"The most important thing for us is we don't just want to see a movie get made," he explains. "We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get made at all."
If you simply can't wait, Mass Effect 2 ships for Xbox 360 and PC next week.

GD am I cheesed about this game
They have no fucking shame, do they.
I'm about 6 hours through: so far, Bioware didn't necessarily "fix" the problems so much as dumb them down.
Example - everyone hated the super complicated endless inventory menu. So, they got rid of an inventory system, and now you "load out" your weapons like Resident Evil 5 at the beginning of a stage.
The game is still really good, but even 6 hours through, it lacks the "wow" factor from the first game in my opinion. I'll probably have it beaten tomorrow before I pigeon-hole it as inferior to the first game!
Thanks for the info! Any other changes that you've noticed so far?
You're killing me slowly. Tuesday is so far away.
I wish they'd just leave out the love scenes entirely. The ones in the first game were just embarassing, and the ones in Dragon Age were so bad, they were funny.
accept it.
I don't know when exactly that scene takes place, but it's definately from the first game. The engine room doesn't look like that in ME2.
@anyone asking
It still feels more or less like Mass Effect in combat and dialogue, but almost everything else is dramatically changed, and not necessarily for the better, I hated it at first but I'm starting to adapt. It does seem a little more 'casualized' than the first game, but the parts that actually matter are pretty much in tact.
@article
Do not want.
Doom was pretty good. The story was something to be lacked, but it was still a good movie. The "FPS" part was the best part.
Maybe that's why I liked Cloverfield so much...
Dear Hollywood,
Please stay away from my beloved franchises. Half-Life, Condemned:Criminal Origins and Mass Effect(to name only 3). In return, I promise to watch Legion.
Sincerely, Ramm.
OMG SPOILERS hahah just kidding.
That said, I guess that's a ME1 promotional scene, 'cause I know it never happens in-game. Unless it's during the montage before you head to Ilos, but I don't think it is.
it'd surely be a satisfying sci-fi but it couldn't capture what makes the game so fantastic.
This would be a great movie because the proxy main character would be learning about all the various races and the citadel at the same time as the audience. It wasn't a very big war, as the Citadel was able to broker a treaty before things escalated.
It could stand alone on its own merits a story for those who will never read the books or play the games. It would fill a hole in the overall fiction of the universe. It would allow them to tell a story in that setting without stepping on the games' toes. The battles would allow for some pew pew pew and the politics of brokering a peace and the humans' introduction to the larger universe would be enough of a hook to tell an interesting story.
Think a riff on Star Trek VI. Maybe after the war in the first act, a human commando team assigned to the Citadel during treaty negotiaions uncovers a plot by a Batarian to assassinate a Turian dignitary and blame it on the humans, thereby extending the war and keeping humans out of areas the Batarians want to settle.
You could make a good Mass Effect movie as long as it's allowed to be it's own story in that universe and not just a pale imitation of the games.
Ok, now I want a prequel game about everything you just described lol
