'Terminator FPS,' a rad-looking mod for Gears of War photo

Two total conversion mods in one night? Why yes, I have been huffing glue again. Oddly enough, both of these mods are for games that have since received follow-ups, although this time, the sequel was never released for PC ... and probably never will be.

Gathering influences from Call of Duty and Killzone 2, modder Kevin Bryant has turned Gears of War into a first-person shooter using the vast amount of fiction from the Terminator universe. He opted to go with Gears rather than a more common choice like Unreal Tournament 3 because of easier scripting and preset mechanics.

Bryant and his team are looking to get a playable beta out to the masses before 2010 rolls around. Since this project is as ambitious as it is, "Terminator FPS" will be released episodically. Mod DB has got a huge write-up on the mod, which you ought to go read. I really do hope this gets finished.

I wonder how long it'll take before he gets a 'Cease and desist'. Unfortunately, mods like this one seem to always get the legal smack-down.

@Pinhead
He just needs to release it uber quickly. Once it's put into cyberspace it's unstoppable.

Call me a pessimist (even though this looks really bloody nice) but if:
because of easier scripting and preset mechanics.
is anything to go by, the team working on it lacks a set of good coders. Since this could EASILY be chucked in the UDK and available to everyone, I'm not quite sure why else they would refrain from moving it across.
And in the modding community, good coders can make or break a mod. By that I mean there isn't many, and they leave projects quite easily.

@paradoxphantom: Probably very easily since the Unreal Engine supports both camera types.

On another note, it's unfortunate that he's using Gears of War instead of UT3 or the UDK. Gears was a failure on PC so not many people will be able to play this.

This will be quashed when the studio or whoever cares about the shitty license hears about it. They did the same for an Aliens mod for Half-Life. Best advice, put the 'Terminator' name no-where near the mod before the 'cease and desist's start rolling in.

Does Gears or War on PC actually work now without crashing 5 minutes into the game? I would have loved to have played it, but even with the patch I couldn't get it to work properly. I blame Live for Windows.

I knew I bought Gears for PC for a reason.

@kaden101, after much frustration, I tell you this. You have to set your system clock back on your pc to get it to work, then you patch the game from epic's website, then you set your system clock to the correct time and it >should< work. It took me 4 hours to figure that one out.
