'Repair Box' brand launched providing parts for consoles photo

Hyperkin, the people who provide peripherals like the Hyperkin Xbox 360 Keypad, has today announced that they're launching a whole new brand called the "Repair Box." Repair Box will offer replacement parts for video game consoles that you've either smashed in rage, dropped down a toilet or, you know, just accidentally damaged.

Hyperkin has also announced the first product that Repair Box will be pushing out; the SNES PowerJack. Those that still own and play their SNES will probably know of a common problem where the plastic around the AC jack decides that it wants to break. Replacement parts for these aren't very common nowadays, and obviously shipping your whole console to a place to get it fixed is going to cost you quite a bit so Repair Box's PowerJack just contains parts to replace the housing itself.

The PowerJack comes complete with a 6-month warranty and a pre-assembled plastic housing. No release date has been given but it's been priced at $12.99

That sounds pretty awesome, the plastic bit they're talking about in mine is starting to go so knowing I'll be able to fix it once it goes is nice.

Yup. that's what's happened to mine. I still drag it out for Turtles in Time and Power Rangers from time to time.

If they continue to add more parts, this could be a godsend to us old-school gamers who don't have a choice but to do repairs ourselves.

My hope? That they somehow stock Famicom Disk System drive belts. That would be badass.

I actually own a small video game store called Games 4 U in Southern Orange County, California for the last few years. I use Hyperkin all the time, they are a great company. They make the Retron 3 (NES, SNES, &Genesis all in one console) and the Supaboy (A portable SNES) I actually ordered these SNES replacement parts a few weeks ago and got them last week. They are good, but it's kinda a pain to take the entire system apart, solderer the part and solder the new one in. We do repairs so its not a big deal for me, but it is kinda a pain if you have no idea of what you are doing or if you don't have soldering experience.. Also you do have to be a reseller to even order anything from them

They will be manufactured. Hyperkin is one of the better cheap-o brands of videogame stuff. Better than Yobo, anyways. So long as it's repair parts, then I'm all for it. Hopefully, they'll make us some good Genesis-to-32X cables. The one I have is tan and 6' long.

...

I was just wondering about this problem the other day: what happens when all the old generation hardware finally becomes impossible to find/repair ? Its nice to know that there will still be places out there when the need arises.

This is a great idea on the part of Hyperkin. As long as they make quality parts I can see doing a great service for a lot of gamers.
