'PSP2 vs. 3DS is like PSP vs. DS'

When Nintendo revealed that 3DS games would received a fairly significant graphical upgrade, it looked like the company was finally meeting some visual standards. However, the bar looks set to be raised even higher, with PSP2 widening the gap to ludicrous degrees.

An ANONYMOUS SOURCE speaking to Edge has corroborated earlier claims that the PSP2 would rival a PS3 in terms of visual power and boast twin analog sticks. It also added that the graphical difference between the PSP2 and the 3DS would be “comparable to the difference which exists between PSP and DS.”

As bold a claim as it is, there's little reason not to believe it. There's no doubt that Sony will once again attempt to usurp Nintendo with raw power, but we mustn't forget that Sony tried this last time and failed to steal control of the handheld market. It doesn't seem to matter to consumers how powerful a handheld system is. What matters is how cool the gimmicks are, and how much software is available.

This is beginning to look like an exact repeat of the DS vs. PSP war. I only hope Sony brings more games to the battlefield this time, because that's how you win the war.
