'Murder Your Maker' VGA teaser rumored to be Prototype 2 photo

As we slowly trudge our way toward the Spike Video Game Awards, incessant speculation and rudderless gossip runs rampant. The latest biggie is the appearance of a "Murder Your Maker" teaser site featuring the back of a bald man's head. Mysterious.

The site's registered to Activision, and a fair few chaps believe that it's leading towards the announcement of Prototype 2. It's as good a guess as any, considering the game's protagonist, Alex Mercer, does a fair amount of murdering and has a very literal connection to the word "Maker."

While right now this is a case of people jumping to conclusions, we're definitely overdue an announcement. Prototype sold pretty damn decently when it was released last year, definitely enough to justify a sequel. We all know Activision well enough by now to understand that if a sequel can get made, a sequel will get made.

A few weeks ago I actually asked Activision about a potential Prototype sequel but got a general "Nothing to announce at this time" line. All I'll say is that I'd f*cking love a new Prototype, so yes please.

Oh I'm with you on that one Jim. Have you gone to any of Activision's Prototype forums? Hundreds of people are posting about new powers and what not to give Alex, and Radical Entertainment is actually agreeing with us. How could they say no to a sequel when fans are hungry for more?

I loved Prototype, spent a good 40 hours with that game. Despite its flaws and rather lackluster graphical presentation compared to other open world games, I really enjoyed it. A sequel with more polish and more powers would be great.

I found the first one fun, but it was very poorly designed. It could also be incredibly frustrating at times. The bosses were fucking ass.I'd love a sequel, but they better fucking improve a lot.

Ok. Gut reaction is seething hatred. Prototype was a steaming pile of grudge-fucked mashed potatoes covered in old man pee. However, the logic part of my brain (what's left of it) sees the potential to fix past mistakes and produce a pretty ace game.

Maybe they'll work on making this game good and not a shitty even more mindless version of Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

If they can fix the sloppy controls I'm in for at least a rental. I dug the mass murdering potential of some of the later powers in the game, and liked the idea of consuming people to escape the authorities.

But god damn did I have a hard time running around that city.

The game was awesome!! I still have it from day one!! The controls were fine the graphics weren't that great but dam did the gameplay make up for it. Tons of moves to do and there was enough powers to keep me satisfied till the sequel!!

Got to say, I would absolutely cream my jeans if there was a sequel to Prototype. One of the most pure fun gaming experiences I have ever had. The destruction you could wreak combined with the mind boggling number of powers you had at your disposal made it, for me, the best sandbox game i've ever played. Sure, it had problems. The graphics were subpar, there were glitches, and the difficulty could be completely unbalanced. But it was just so much fun, that if Activision gave Radical the time on the sequel to just add that extra level of polish, then I could see it being one of my favourite games ever.

Oh, and if we're going to get into the whole 'Infamous vs Prototype' debate, then i'll just say this. Infamous was marginally more polished, though it still had a lot of bugs and graphical issues. The story, which was one of it's big selling points pre-release was mediocre at best. And to me, it just wasn't that fun to play. What I loved about Prototype was that feeling of just wanton destruction you could cause, and after coming off that and onto playing Infamous, I was massively dissapointed.

Infamous is overrated but probably marginally better than Prototype mainly because the missions weren't almost randomly scattered across the map forcing you to cross the city seven or eight times to get them all. I thought that the gameplay of Prototype was more fun overall though as it had vehicles, lots of melee options, and infiltration bits to break up the monotony of wandering about doing missions. Both games had rather forgettably lame, grim, non-characters. Infamous had a somewhat better story-line and most of the missions were pretty decent apart from the bizarre mario-land-hazard filled "power sewers" you had to enter to turn the power back on. The morality thing was okay but got old pretty fast. The auto-platforming was interesting but got old pretty fast as did the wire riding and gliding. Of course so did the wall running and leaping and gliding in Prototype.

I thought Red Faction Guerilla, Saints Row 3, Just Cause 2, and Crackdown all put both of them to shame. I'd also mention Crackdown 2 but it was just Crackdown with zombies and more weapons so...it's pretty much just more Crackdown.

Hell, I even liked the Saboteur a little more than I did inFamous and Protoype mostly because of the weird B&W effect.

I don't think I'd bet on a PS3 fanboy in a fistfight. Everyone knows that Kinect tones your muscles more than Move. Also, anyone that describes their fighting heyday as involving "fisticuffs and scuffles" is either lying or 80.

Trollz? In mah Destructoid?!

Anyway, despite the flaws Prototype is a fun game. And I love killing those "monsters" while disguised as a soldier. It makes me feel like playing as somekind of super-soldier.

Dude! My muscles are sooooo toned from Kinectimals! Of course, I play naked, so it's mostly just my boner getting toned... but still!

If they can improve the level design and make a game that's difficult because of actual challenge, then I'll encourage a sequel. Otherwise, I'd say fuck it. The first was a cool idea, but one that quickly got frustrating and enraging.

"Here we go again... Infamous 2 vs Prototype 2."
Infamous 2 is a clear winner because it was made earlier, and because...why is Alex Mercer bald? I guess his hair got off together with the hood...I think I just got your answer Occams. :P

As a big fan of hulk: ultimate destruction, i was bitterly disappointed by this game. It had all the pace and purchase of a sweaty case of sunday morning runs. A classic example of a proficient team with crap directorship.
Hopefully the title of the teaser suggests you'll be hunting the protagonist from the first game: maybe a new playable character will allow for a more slowly developed character and in turn more intelligebt, reasonably paced combat scenes? The franchise definitely has potential. However with the activision influence it'll probably just get a new lick of paint, some extra mission types and multiplayer. My nipples are on end with cynacism...
