'Moral' group attacks violent videogames, accuses them of being gay photo

Most of us sensible people call them videogames. One particular group simply calls them "violence." That particular group calls itself The Timothy Plan. Most sensible people call them morons.

The Timothy Plan is a mutual fund group that "only invests in companies who reach very quantifiable moral and ethical standards." Group founder Art Ally is particularly interested in shying away from companies that "provide products that harm children." Of course, those products are naturally videogames ... sorry, violent videogames. We have to remember that these videogames are so VIOLENT!

Violent video games have become increasingly more popular as graphics and improvements in technology have improved over the years. Studies have shown that aggressive attitudes and even actions can be increased after playing violent games for as little as 20 minutes. Yet, video games have emerged as one of the most popular forms of entertainment for children, with over 70% living in a home with at least one video game player and 33% of children have one in their bedroom.

Even more amazingly, The Timothy Plan has written a detailed list of the worst videogames out there, rating them on violence, language and -- get this -- how GAY they are. Well, it wouldn't be moralist Christian extremism without a little pathetic homophobia, would it? Yes, Art Ally and his loathsome cross-bearers call Army of Two out for having "homo-erotic undertones" and complains about the "hidden love affair between Marcus and Dom" in Gears of War 2. I sh*t you not!

Each videogame in the list is rated on various offensive criteria. "Gay/Lesbian" is one of the "immoral" issues that the games get a rating for. That's f*cking disgusting.

These people really are uncivilized, vile creatures. How they can criticize the offensive content in videogames from one side of their mouths while spouting ignorant, despicable, homophobic drivel from the other side is truly hypocritical bullsh*t. They whine about some games containing "blasphemy" because it insults their God, yet have no problem insulting gay people. Such scumbags give real Christians a bad name.

See! Even they can see Marcus and Dom's sexual undertones! And Cliffy B. even said that he was trying to make it more romantic! Why is this not confirmed yet?

Ugh, absolutely disgusting. However I do find it somewhat ammusing that they're totally right in terms of which games have gay undertones.

I can just see these guys frowning judgmentally every time the words "I love you Mister Frodo" are uttered.

I agree with them being ridiculous and placing things (especially GoW2) in places they aren't but I don't see why the big deal is that a religion that speaks out as homosexuality listing it as bad thing in games (or any other form of media) is hypocritical.
It would be hypocritical to lie and say it is in places it is not, of course (which they do do). But it would also be hypocritical of them to say it wrong but not mark it off in places it actually is as wrong, which they don't do.
It should be rated with other sexual content but the fact that either hetero or homo content is above violence is pretty foolish.

Zanthox: The hypocrisy is in the complete disregard of the fundamental teachings of Christian scripture - that is love, compassion and tolerance. To preach hatred and ignorance is to be a sinner, and the hypocrisy is in preaching from a soapbox about the very thing you're guilty of yourself.

You can't stand up and say "Oh, I'm a good Christian who loves my neighbors, I am charitable and compassionate, I am morally righteous, and YOU FUCKING FAGS CAN BURN IN HELL". It's totally self contradictory.

I have a question Jim: how many times can you write these kinds of articles before the weight of humanity crushes your spirit?

"Also liked how there was no mention of the fact that you can nuke an entire town in Fallout 3"

@ Superfluous-

That's because many American Christians think that when Jesus said "No longer shall there be an eye for an eye" he was only speaking to the people listening within earshot at the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... have you read this?

On Abortion.
"The Bible clearly tells us 'Do not commit murder.' Jesus said, Let the children come to me.'"

Well which is it?! Don't kill them? Or "Send" them to Jesus.

I've got no quarrel with religious folks, as long as they aren't the fucknut variety who like using random quotes from their favoured "translation" of scripture (especially to contradict themselves in the same sentence).

I'm glad I no longer associate myself with religion.

Hi Jim,
thanks for posting this and being your usual vocal self about the stupidity and prejudice of these people.
It always means a lot to me when the fine folk of Destructoid stand up against homophobia - often from within the gaming community itself.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you, Jim, for not spouting the usual hate speech that comes out of some other sites when these sad excuses for Christians spout this crap. I didn't get to see the "guide" that they made cause of crappy school computers, but seriously when will they understand that parents of young children have to make the decision. READ THE ESRB RATING! Trying to get that message across is like beating dead a horse with a friggin asteroid
