'Moral' group attacks violent videogames, accuses them of being gay photo

Most of us sensible people call them videogames. One particular group simply calls them "violence." That particular group calls itself The Timothy Plan. Most sensible people call them morons.

The Timothy Plan is a mutual fund group that "only invests in companies who reach very quantifiable moral and ethical standards." Group founder Art Ally is particularly interested in shying away from companies that "provide products that harm children." Of course, those products are naturally videogames ... sorry, violent videogames. We have to remember that these videogames are so VIOLENT!

Violent video games have become increasingly more popular as graphics and improvements in technology have improved over the years. Studies have shown that aggressive attitudes and even actions can be increased after playing violent games for as little as 20 minutes. Yet, video games have emerged as one of the most popular forms of entertainment for children, with over 70% living in a home with at least one video game player and 33% of children have one in their bedroom.

Even more amazingly, The Timothy Plan has written a detailed list of the worst videogames out there, rating them on violence, language and -- get this -- how GAY they are. Well, it wouldn't be moralist Christian extremism without a little pathetic homophobia, would it? Yes, Art Ally and his loathsome cross-bearers call Army of Two out for having "homo-erotic undertones" and complains about the "hidden love affair between Marcus and Dom" in Gears of War 2. I sh*t you not!

Each videogame in the list is rated on various offensive criteria. "Gay/Lesbian" is one of the "immoral" issues that the games get a rating for. That's f*cking disgusting.

These people really are uncivilized, vile creatures. How they can criticize the offensive content in videogames from one side of their mouths while spouting ignorant, despicable, homophobic drivel from the other side is truly hypocritical bullsh*t. They whine about some games containing "blasphemy" because it insults their God, yet have no problem insulting gay people. Such scumbags give real Christians a bad name.

"Art Ally" being the founder of an anti-culture group is painfully ironic.

Wait, Gears 2 has a "sex" score of 1? I don't remember any implied sex, let alone explicit babymaking. What game were these people playing?

Also of interest, the Pokemon games are completely clean. Yeah, because Christian think-tanks just love evolution.

At least they appear to have done their homework. Their review of Fallout 3 contained no obvious falsehoods, and they even mention the 'gay achievement' Over The Rainbow in Bully. Then again they probably have gotten all that info straight from the ESRB.

Wait, they are calling video games gay??

Whoa, they aren't Xbox live players, are they??

I mean calling something 'Gay' which is not a person of a particular sexual orientation, is something you'd expect from a high schooler.

It's wonderfully ironic, don't you people think??

@Blind assassin: Yep, pretty ironic

I also like how, to them, GTA4, Fallout 3, Bioshock and SR2 are worst than that garbage of Manhunt 2. I guess Manhunt 2 is better since it have LESS GAY CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stomping on violence in video games is all well and good, and in some respects I understand it, even if it is a completely shitty and narrow minded point, but trampling on games for 'gay undertones'?! If I cared at all for what other people think about the shit I do, I'd actually be personally offended by this.

Yeah, it sucks that groups like this exist, and they're everywhere in the world giving everyone else a bad name.

How many people are subject to insane racism just because a few people who look like them blow themselves up for a cause? Religious zealotry is a huge pain in the ass. In the gaming community, there's so much anti-Christian sentiment, too, so this article is good to see. Bravo, Sterling. No more straw men!

Sorry for posting three times on the same story, but the best is what they put in there about Army of Two. Supposedly it has "Somewhat homo-erotic undertones between the two main characters."

Also liked how there was no mention of the fact that you can nuke an entire town in Fallout 3; it's probably ok in their eyes since you don't actually see anyone die. I'm reminded of the ATHF episode where they replaced blood splatters with rainbows to mock the FCC.

this kind of thing makes me want to make out with boys.

seriously though, I think they hit the nail on the head with the Dom&Marcus thing. They pretty much remind me of Frodo and Sam but with necks like tree trunks, pock-marked faces, and less curly fros. Maybe the 'fuck me' eyes are toned down a bit, but still, pretty homo.

I couldn't find the "hidden love affair between Marcus and Dom" on there, but they're at least pretty accurate about what they say a game contains. I don't sees a lot of hyperbole in the actual content reviews.

And they even managed to creep their homophobia into this...how pathetic.

@Mxy: Well, at least in my own life, sexy-type stuff tended to happen later than all the others (especially comic mischief!), so maybe sexually-related content is considered the most strictly adult.

If I hadn't murdered all those mutants with a chaingun when I was 5 years old, I might have a different viewpoint. But they were ugly.

Firstly.... /facepalm. They'll never learn.

And secondly, if GoW had a love affair between Marcus and Dom then it would be so full of awesome I think I'd have sex with my 360.

The fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals is that liberals believe that everyone should have the right to choose for themselves, while conservatives believe they should have the right to choose for everyone else.

Welcome to 1726. Enjoy the lynching.

For hyperbole and scaremongering, consult the group's press release.

For homophobia, consult the group's content reviews.

@faultymoose: I believe the lynching in these parts is being done to the Timothy Plan.

And EVERYBODY believes that they are on the side of freedom, and that their opponents are close-minded fascists blinded by a repressive ideology. Parents may have different beliefs about what their kids should have access to, but very few parents believe that kids should have unfettered access to whatever they want.

I don't agree with the Timothy Plan's value judgments, but I support their right to voice them in a non-inflammatory manner.

and @Jim: I still don't see a great deal of fear-mongering after reading the whole press release. There are studies that show violent video games increase aggression. That doesn't mean they create psychopaths out of mommy's little angel. Let's not be overly sensitive here. I don't expect video games to make me a better person; I just want to be entertained.

And I read both the review guides, but couldn't find that line about Marcus and Dom. But reeding is fore loosers.

MaxVest: Absolutely, people have the right to voice their opinions and protect their children. As I said in my post though, these attitudes are external, and affect others. It's awefully hypocritical to spout love and tolerance and forgiveness and enlightenment, and then to slander others from a self constructed soapbox of righteous misguidance.

I want my children to grow up in a world where they are loved and respected, and where they are taught to love and respect others. This is irrespective of their choices, so long as those choices don't take away the choices of others. I don't want people to claim moral superiority and use that as justification for hate and fearmongering.

But you're okay with it, and that's good for you.

I personally disagree with the rabid hypocritical nature of it all though.

Incidently, I'm a Christian, so I'm not attacking their belief system. I AM harshly opposed to misrepresenting that belief system, though.

I took a class last year on film and popular culture, and one thing we talked about was all the homoerotic undertones in most action movies. Seriously, go watch the original "Die Hard," or that scene in "Lethal Weapon 2" where the bomb is on the toilet and tell me it's not just a little suggestive. And speaking of gay video game characters, how do you think they'd feel about Jolly Roger in Banjo-Tooie? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

well, besides the obvious stretching of the whole gay thing, the rest of the descriptions are pretty much spot on.

He should review games. He lists a lot of the cool stuff.

Although I read over this, and checked the score cards, I can tell he didn't play a lot of these games. using his own methods of describing a game, both super mario galaxy and super paper mario should have received higher scores.

and momomo66: Older generations are just the idiots that are in charge now. When your generation (whatever that is) gets old enough to be in power, they will do the same stupid things the old ones do. But it'll be our kids saying that stuff about us.
