'Missing gamer' Brandon Crisp found dead photo

Brandon Crisp, the 15-year-old boy who has become known in the press as the "missing gamer," has been discovered dead after a huge police search. The boy ran away from home after he was banned by his parents from playing Call of Duty.

According to CP24, the body was discovered on Fifth Line in the Barrie area. The police are yet to officially state that the body is of Crisp, but Sgt. Dave Goodbrand of the Barrie Police strongly believes it to be the boy. The police of course won't confirm anything until Pathology have done what they need to do.

Some claims are being made that hunters discovered Brandon's body, but that is also unconfirmed. It's not clear exactly how the body was found yet.

As it stands, I don't think any of us know much of anything about these events and don't really have a place to talk.

For example: The parents COULD have been horrible and abusive parents who never interacted with their child except to yell at him. On the flip side, this kid COULD have been an uncaring ass-hat who abused his parents goodwill by rebelling for no reason at every step.

The one thing that will SURELY be true is that SOME idiot will try to blame this on videogames. Thank goodness Jack Thompson can't practice law anymore.

FYI, I was the first to open up this article when Jim posted it. I could make first comment and be a scumbag about it, but I just didn't care. I don't laugh at the poor kid's death. I laugh at these paladin fuckers, I laugh at faking and insincerity, their stupidity and reactions. It's so easy to see through such lies. And I don't have problems with meaningless condolences, I have problem with fake condolences.

Teach your children well. Come on, parents! What happened? At least 50 percent of the people i know would know that videogames are not something to run away over. Internet, maybe... cell phone definitely, but videogames?! That is silly.

They aren't fake, they're superficial. It's like the Seinfeld line "I mean, I'm glad they're happy but it really doesn't do anything for me personally." Obviously, in the opposite sense here, I feel sort of bad that they feel bad but it really doesn't do anything for me either way. Why not just leave it alone?

Very nice Electro Lemon. I forgot to even mention that point.

Internet Paladins: Make sure to tell the assholes how they would feel if they were in the shoes of those personally affected by this tragedy. If there's one thing that assholes are good at doing, it's sympathizing with people they've never met and know nothing about. Your comment is sure to shame some of them into shutting up.

While this is of course horrible, and my sympathies goes out to the parents, I can't help but laugh at some these jokes.

Did a grenade go off when they found the body?

I understand those who wish to keep death a serious and solemn event, but for me (and probably many others here), humor is humor, and you can't help that.

When Heath Ledger died, I tried my best not to make any sort of joke about it. As an actor, I respected him greatly, and his death at such a young age, along with a daughter, made it even more sad. I eventually cracked, making some remark.

My point is, try to be understanding, whichever way you choose to look at death.

Wow.
This is probably one of the stupidest arguments I've seen here.
Look, I don't think anybody's shedding tears here. The simple fact of the matter is that somebody died and it's sad, period. Granted, it doesn't personally affect us, so we're not bawling our eyes out or anything, but there's nothing wrong with showing a little empathy.

@Blind Assassin, not once did I say I was offended by their statements, but faking grief, that's just pathetic. I stop reading after your first sentence as it had no truth in it whatsoever.

@Vexed Alex, I'm an insensitive prick, thanks. Go be subjective somewhere else.

Sure, kids do stupid things, we all do it, it's just child instincts, but If I were to die, and someone where to insult my family..

A) Would They know? If not, it wouldn't bother them at all.

B) They would know better than to care what anyone else says.

C) Lucky I wasn't killed? Or smarter than the average Joe to not run away due to a game being banned from my use. The kid obviously had issues and should have been dealt with before-hand.

Also, at this stage of my life, I plan not to have children.

By the way, not once did I ever make fun of the child. So don't accuse me of false doings.

I feel bad for the parents, but then again I question my sympathy. I mean, yeah, it really could be bad parenting but then again you never know. The kid could of just been extremely selfish and stubborn. I'm wondering how he died considering he had food and what not, I'm curious to find out actually.

Either way, bad parenting should be blamed before anything else considering the child didn't bring himself up, they did.

My condolences go to his family.

I live in Barrie. My house is less than 10km's from where they found his body. His parent's house is about 2 block away from mine. So yes, I'm familiar with this story.

Chances are, he tried to have a go at camping in the woods just outside of town. We had a few cold nights between now and Oct 13, and he probably froze to death in his sleep.

Aside from that - I can't believe some of the comments here. You people are fucking retarded. A boy is dead. The last time his parents saw him, it was a huge fight on Thanksgiving, a holiday for families. How do you think they feel? How do you think this community feels right now? Thousands of strangers have been searching for this kid for a month now, and now they find his body, and people are cracking jokes? I'm ashamed to count myself as a member of this community right now.

If you think you have a right to crack wise regarding this situation - fuck off and die in a fire.

I find it hard to feel sympathy, his game got taken and he got mad and ran away, I was a shitty student when I was still in high school years ago, I got my SNES controller constantly taken from me, not once did I think to run away.

And the second a kid of mine says he's running away, I'm locking him into his room.

Stupid kid is stupid for running away and ending up dead. He would still be alive if he just stayed put at home instead of acting like a puss. Heck if he aplogized to his parents they mighta let him played his beloved xbox. But no, he had to runaway, and without his trusty xbox to supervise him and safeguard him, he was easy prey to.... whatever made him unalive. Let this be a lesson to you kids, stay at home under the watchful caring red circular eyes of your xbox and you'll be safe!

Some kid died. Some people might actually feel pretty shaken up about that, maybe they lived near him, or they have seen similar situations, whatever. Let them say it makes them sad. Obviously other people aren't going to care so much becuase it doesn't really affect them in any way. Common everyone, just try and understand each other and get along.

Okay, I only read the first page of comments, and skimmed the second. There's a couple of ways to look at this, and truth be told, we don't necessarily have all the information at this time. Regardless, here are my thoughts . . .

Okay, first things first, a kid is dead. While that makes me "sad," I'm not particularly surprised/shocked/remorseful or anything. Now with that said, on one hand, I do believe in Darwinism and such to a certain extent, and he did somewhat have it coming to him. On the other, it's a very unfortunate accident. If he was murdered, I would feel a bit more "sad," but once again, this was for the most part, his own doing.

Now, we can play the blame game, and start pointing fingers, like the parents should've just let him play, or they shouldn't have encouraged him to leave and call his bluff, etc. There is a certainty though, that there has to be a line drawn on reason. Now the kid leaves home and is super pissed and all, so that's reasonable, but if he doesn't have enough sense to realize at some point he's been irrational or in overhead his head, then he's a tard, and "deserved" what happened. Same with the parents, and how much "effort" they put in to discipline/stop/educate him in general.

Now, there can be all the "sympathy" and such, and we're dealing with something that was brought to our attention in a form of media with which we relate to. Do I feel sympathy or such for the kid or the parents? On a VERY minute level. This is mainly due to the fact that there were an enormous number of ways to prevent this. Okay, I didn't know the kid or the parents personally, but there has be some sort of moral reasoning and such that has to be brought into account.

Now, we all know, people will die and it happens all the time, etc. But, how a number of people are trying to be all protective and such of the situation and saying how you should be sad and that if you aren't you're an asshole, etc. is just plain ridiculous. This kid had a chocie. I think it's somewhat for the most part agreed on, he made the wrong one. Let's take into account those who DO NOT have a choice, like the genocide victims in Tibet, the child slavery in Africa, etc. There's rarely any sorrow or attention paid to those who die in those situations, at least in the form of media the majority of us here at Destructoid look into.

It's late and I'm thinking I'm losing my train of thought, but regardless, while some may find it "distasteful/classless/etc." for people poking fun at this, there has to be a fine line of which certain things must be accepted. So once again, I'm "sad" that a kid is dead, and I do feel for the parents as they'll unfortunately have to live without their child any more, but do I feel remorseful, or surprised, or think people should really be "caring" so much about this . . . no . . . not at all.

Hopefully I didn't screw up this post, but hopefully people will respect one another's opinion on this board, and stop personal attacks and try to have a lively dicussion.
