The wonderful Back to the Future series has been receiving a welcome renaissance over the last few years. With its 25th Anniversary passing by -- commemorated with a Blu-ray collection -- and the welcome addition to the story through Telltale's episodic puzzle adventure, now Nike is releasing a replica of the infamous shoes from the second movie.
They're called the 2011 Nike MAG, and are now available as a limited-edition item on eBay as part of a special auction for the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research. The ten-day auction started on September 8th. However, being a limited-edition shoe of such an iconic film prop, the auctions so far have amassed on average a crazy $5,000 per pair.
Though many of us won't be able to afford that, Nike confirmed that another version, complete with the trademark "power laces," will be coming in 2015. Whether or not they'll be as spectacular remains to be seen.
In the meantime, enjoy the classy short film above, and a special message from Marty McFly himself -- the one and only Michael J. Fox.
Well, i would love to have one of those pairs...... but i would NEVER pay over 100 dollars for them, and then there are stupid people paying over 5000 grand, lol.
sad panda is sad. Why can't I be an elite member of society too, some entitled child of an oil executive with thousand dollar bills shoved up my ass because I am one rich ass motherfucker.
I really do want these shoes, but even more so.... I want the awesome shades they sent out to the press http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/nike-its-about-time-shield-glasses-4.jpg
Im sure Nike could give these away for free and donate $5,000 per shoe themselves.
I love it when companies do shit like that and people are like "Ahh Nike is such a great company...." like [b]REALLY?/b] They are only dotaning the $10 it costs them to make the fucking shoe, the other $4,900 is from a poor sap.
Such an auction means only the mega rich can enter. If they really wanted to give us better deal, they just mass produce these. Many of us have waited too long for a pair. Must we really wait til 2015?
@tekbunny - Real sorry dude, but I just had to report this and get the word out.
Also, if you read the article and watch the film closely, there will be another version - complete with powerlaces - in 2015. Now rumours are that they will be massed produced for the public, hence being much more affordable to us. The downside to that is of course it'll won't be a limited edition, nor do we know if the design will exactly be the same, with LEDs for example.
@GraveRisen - Yeah those shades are pretty damn awesome huh.
@tylerstravis - I'm not sure which shoes you speak of. You're not talking about the basketball cop-outs that Nike did a couple of years back, which Kobi Bryant bought are ya?
Fair play its for charity, but why not sell the trainers to the general public and give a percentage to the charity. Surely that way everyone gets a crack at owning a pair
i love everything about this
but god damn people are crazy about these ugly shoes just cause they were in the movie
5-10k a pair? nike should match the poor suckers winning bids
It's called Parkinsons. You know, like the disease this charity is fighting agaisnt?
On a related note, it's so good to see that Michael and Nike have gotten around to this. I don't care how hipocritical Nike might be for not donating themselves, or Michael for starting his foundation AFTER getting the disease, help is help and all those who give it have my blessing.
Whoa guys you are overlooking the most meaty part of this story!! It's the epic return of Raz Rauf and his incredibly game related posts! Welcome back, Raz Rauf! I misses you on podtoid dog!!! Holy shit I cannot contain myself.
It breaks my heart to see how his disease has progressed in the last 10 years. This might be the last time we ever see him in front of a camera again, unless Parkinson's is eradicated! I hope some high-rollers put down a ton of cash for these shoes to help fund the research for the cure.
I'm conflicted. On one hand I'm happy that they are doing this and want the MJFox foundation to get money as soon as possible to help with parkinsons. On the other hand, I wish they had waited till 2015 to release these to coincide with the year from Back to the Future. Also I wish I could buy a pair (I'd totally wear them.)
whens the back to the future ones coming out? whoa.. tihnk its time to sleep... i m posting on territory i don't understand. WHERS MY KOF13 DAMN YOU JOHNATHAN HOLMES>...
LOL whoa i read this right. it is back to the future... damn, i... i hate being able to communicate perfectly to people through text, but rage in person. i need more 2D fighters.

Thanks for fuckin up my day raz.
Yeah fuck charity and all that.
In all seriousness, though, that's great that they're doing it for such a good cause.
In all seriousness I would sell my sole and my girlfriend for a pair of these.
I see what you did there

If my blessing is worth anything, of course
@PenKaizen "...and the welcome addition to the story through Telltale's episodic puzzle adventure..." That. And because they're fucking awesome.
Damn it destructoid.
This has nothing to do with videogames. Briefly mentioning "oh yeah, some Back to the Future games exist" isn't enough.
Good luck MJF!

it doesn't matter. It's Raz fuckin Rauf
