'Call of Duty' sneaks onto Modern Warfare 2 final cover art photo

Infinity Ward’s community manager Robert “fourzertwo” Bowling just tweeted a picture of Modern Warfare 2’s retail boxes. According to Bowling, these pups just came off the press and apparently, ‘s--t just got real.’

But wait a second ... is that a Call of Duty we see above the Modern Warfare 2 logo? We’ve witnessed a lot of waffling from Activision about adding and subtracting the Call of Duty brand from Modern Warfare. The publisher flat out told us not long ago that the game would not have the Call of Duty name attached to it.

Looks like we may have our final answer: Modern Warfare 2 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Final title: Acivision Presents: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: The Revenge of Soap: Episode 1: Starring Kool and The Gang w/ Mike Silas on drums.

It's probably for the best. As nice as it'd be for Infinity Ward to distance the quality of their installation in the Call of Duty franchise, it'd also suck balls if their awesome work went lesser-noticed due to lack of brand recognition.

Looks good to me. I'm interested to see what game is like. And you know what? I don't give a damn about the name. Not like JehutyFromHell saying it 'fucking sucks'. Big words for something that shouldn't matter at all.

i was hoping that "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2" would make the cut.

GOOD

They were fools not to include it in the first place. You can't take the subtitle of a game and make it the real title

Seriously, they were going to release a game called "Modern Warfare 2" To us, we know what it is, to the stupid backwards visor bro Madden players, I doubt they'd know the same

What would have been next?

Fantasy Adventure 2? Oh yeah, that sounds like fun.

So much drama over this games name. Makes my head spin.

yeah it makes sense as far as brand recognition goes. I still wish other games would drop subtitle crap, especially games that aren't sequels.

I really liked it better as Modern Warfare 2. It differentiates Treyarch and Infinity Ward's works, which is only a good thing.

I also liked it as just Modern Warfare 2. It made it seem newer, and fresh. I suppose it makes sense for the morons who don't pay attention and just called it COD4 the whole time, paying no mind to the subtitle.

@brainderailment - Yeah, I'm not sure. We're still trying to work with Activision on all of this right now.
@Magnalon - I liked it too, but look at this: http://www.google.com/trends?q=modern+warfare%2C+call+of+duty&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Good. Removing it was a fucking stupid idea. I'm anal and I like my franchises properly labeled. If I had it my way, this would be Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2.

lol, they finally came to their senses. I wonder how much it would have affected sales to launch it as what looked like a new IP to the uneducated buyer.

GRENADE WARFARE.

And its just series recognition, they really do need to keep that name there.

It looks like "Call of Duty" was just slapped on there after they already had the cover art printed.

Keep the call of duty dont keep it. I dont care. Either way this game is going to be fan-fuckin-tastic. Although, I wish the call of duty text didnt stand out as much, hopefully between now and release they will change the font in some way to match the background.

Yep! I really should have noted that unfortunately, they should make the smart business decision, as a business, and keep the brand awareness.

I just think it would have been a neat gamble in order to differentiate to two brands.

Im going to buy it and play it.

Only u guys really care for the name, they care about attention. Having the name call of duty is just a smart move.

If u were the one to decide, and if it would have any effect on your pay check, I AM 100% sure u would do the god damn same thing.

STOP BITCHING.

This is a good thing. Call of Duty has a much bigger brand recognition, and since it can't be called "CoD6" or anything, Modern Warfare will take off as the title, meaning they CAN drop it for the inevitable 3rd episode.

Either way, I don't really care provided the game is good.

I guess they were trying to distance themselves from shitty games like Call Of Duty 3(it wasn't that bad in my opinion, but it seems everyone else hated it) but I guess they decided the Call of Duty brand is too big since CoD:MW.
