Okay, I need to know how this works. Because if it's the smart way where you link your Club Nintendo account and then can simply re-download any games that are linked to said account, then I will be very happy as I have lost several games due to a busted Wii.
If it's something lame like the 3DS system transfer... then that will be one more reason for me to skip on picking this system up any time soon.

That's good news. Between this and reportedly supporting USB hardrives instead of going with proprietary bullshit, they are doing some thInge right. I can't wait until it has 3-5 games worth playing so I and consider buying one
haha, seriously, this shows just how inept Sony is. Nintendo, NINTENDO FOR CHRISSAKE, is beating them in at least one sub-category of digital download gaming.
I hope this means that every Wiiware and Virtual Console title will be available for purchase on the Wii U.

I wonder how if the Rock Band DLC will transfer. *Me being the only guy who buys Rock Band DLC on the wii*
I'm certain this is the result of the WiiU using the Wii hardware to play all of the Wii software, including downloaded titles. Just like all PS3s play PS1 and used to play PS2 games vita hardware emulation, this will do the same leaving no desires in the BC field. Unlike the Vita, this is a direct tie between hardware, with no rewritten software emulation, not that there's an excuse for Sony's slow pace.
This is the first 'next gen' console that succeeds and inherits an online games store. I have a feeling all systems will follow suit in this field, even if they forgo full BC.

Virtual Console was the main reason I purchased a Wii in the first place. This is good news for me. If they include the ability to purchase gamecube games as well in future releases I'll be extra happy.

Good to hear. I originally thought that this was standard but how Sony's been acting recently has made Nintendo look really good here.
Well at least they did something right. Sucks about Gamecube though, I still have quite a few titles for that system.
What about games saves/data that are locked? I tried to back up my games and can't copy/transfer some data, ex: Smash Bros Brawl.
It's gonna horribly flop if they don't just let you redownload what you have linked to your club nintendo account. The DS/3DS way is just stupid, most people will probably trade in their old Wii for credit towards the Wii U, so how the hell can you transfer then?

Remember to verify you still have your stuff. Nintendo wii purchases are NOT linked to an account, so you will need the hardware. Customer service told me so and now I'm out a couple hundred bucks.

Hmm. But a lot of these games I like playing with the Gamecube controller. And so as long as I'm keeping my Wii around, I probably won't bother with this, unless I can have them on both systems.

Why are we even still surprised that they dropped that support from the Wii in a newer iteration of the system? Why do we act like we're owed backwards compatibility when it's really something they never HAVE to give us?

@Booming Since I have a BC Wii with no Cube games on it, as soon as I get everything transfered over to the U, the Wii is gonna get packed away but the legacy stuff will still be out and about (Wiimotes, Switch Shot EX-3, and accessories for the Wiimotes.

This fact alone that all my current Wii Stuff will be playable on this makes me FAR more likely to buy this than before.
Now, if they tell me I won't have to buy new Classic Controllers, this will be a Day 1 purchase!
