$35,000 Nintendo Entertainment System sells for $50,000 photo

I can't even... what is... why in the... sigh.

Yesterday we told you about a NES that was on eBay for a minimum bid of $35,000. The seller, ronald3868, said he needed the money to pay his bills and that the NES was the only thing he had left that meant anything to him. You probably read this and thought, "Good luck, buddy." Good luck indeed; the NES sold for $50,000.

Yea, you read that right. Who knows if he is actually going to get the money, but if he does he's either going to be able to buy another hundred or so NESs with that extra $15,000 dollars he got or he's pulled off a really fantastic con. Either way, home boy is rolling in it now. I believe an astonished slow clap is in order for Mr. Ronald3868.

Up next: A Sega Genesis will sell for $75,000 because it really reminds a guy of his dead mother and he has to pay for her funeral bills.

Wow. Time to dig my NES out of my parents' attic, I suppose.

Shit, I'd even settle for $49k. I'm not greedy.

@Indiana Jones- The people at Dtoid are some of the worlds most decent.

The guy might actually not be really poor, that's why it could be a con.

Whether or not you consider it to be a con, that's a lot of money for a toy.

@Indiana Jones so you believe everything you see on the Internet? Another thing is that there are a lot of people making fake bids on high profile auctions like this as a cruel joke.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!
The seller should be hailed as an eBay marketing genius, and the buyer should be declared too stupid to live.
I am insanely jealous of the seller and I will be copying his sales technic as soon as news of this blows over.

The guy didn't need anyone to "help him out", he needed to take back his HDTV and other ammenities that he got through loans.

@Indiana Jones, I have a bridge I need to sell. Its the last thing I have and it means a lot to me, but I need to pay my vet bills as my cute wittle puppy got a boo-boo from a lollipop-related mishap.

For every good person out there, there's another hundred willing to take advantage of him/her. I hate that the world is like that, but it is. Fact is, the seller could be a con artist, and the buyer could be a liar. If they are both authentic, awesome. But I wouldn't bet the farm on that being the case.

I hope this doesn't set some awful precedent and raise the price of old consoles. I'm still rebuilding my collection and I hate to think I'll be buying an NES for $500 in a years time.

that's insane but we'll see if he actually gets the money. And if you look at this guys feedback, it's possible he just bought the nes.

No one is stupid here, except believing this won't fall through in a couple of days. It's obviously a couple of trash bidders, screwing with some unfortunately very dumb, broke kid.

In all seriousness, I'm glad Dtoid is keeping up with this story because I don't want to have to be following this guy's ebay account to find out when the winning bidder reneges.

Honestly I think the guy just needed a hand. I'm in the same boat myself and have considered selling some things. Maybe not for 50k but I hope the guy got the money he needed. From what I read it sounded like he really needed it.

Why do Nigerians go through the pain of email when they can do this?

And guys, it's not the NES itself that sold for $50,000, but the NES, games and other rare items. Just keep it buried.

Probably a fake bid anyway, thankfully.

For all we know some wealthy benefactor saw this and was so touched by the man's connection to his NES that he decided to help him off his feet. I can't think of any other reason someone would buy it.

Of course, if his problems were due to typical living-beyond-one's-means bullshit, then he deserves to be smacked in the face by Sterling Himself.

I'm amazed that so many people are willing to believe the bidding was legit. These high-profile auctions with ridiculous items and/or prices almost always get a ton of fake bids.

If he were living beyond his means, he's have more than an NES to sell. If it were some benefactor, why would he purchase the NES instead of just donating the money as a charity write-off or gift, unless I'm totally off on the tax code.

@Crawdads revenge, keep in mind the only reason it's "High Profile" is because Destructoid and everyone else reported on it. Otherwise it would just be some random guy on ebay.

Anyone think I can sell my broken original XBOX for the same amount? My family really needs help. My folks, both retired, just mortgaged everything they have to help bail out my older sister who was almost $50,000 deep in credit card debt. (No shit, my sister is a genuine stupid bitch.) We can't have any nice things anymore. And student loan time for me later this year, unless I'm in prison for killing her. My brain really hurts.
